I have no problems with the previous 2 disc release (you see, I'm not that audio expert) but since it is one of my all-time favourite scores and my absolute favourite by Williams I think I'll add it to my collection and hope I'll find some so-far unheard beauties in it.

How expanded is the main score portion?

Edit- I already have their previous release.

How expanded is the main score portion?

This is what I'm wondering. I have the original 2-disc version ripped to MP3, and my playlist runs 2h 15m total--but that's with 16 minutes of alternate cues at the end but also without the two songs on that release ("We Don't Wanna Grow Up" and "When You're Alone").

So it looks to be about 10 minutes extra.

But the tracks don't match up between these two releases. Some look to be separated (e.g. "The Ultimate War" cues), but even the track titles that do match...some of them are different lengths, so I can't tell if stuff has been trimmed, combined, or both. A good example is "Banning Back Home". The version that I have from the set that was included on Disc 1 is 2m 23s, and neither version on the new set matches it (I'm thinking this was an album version, and they've since found an original version...??).

My initial thought was "Eh, I don't need the double dip", but I'm not so sure now. The songs I could do without since I was never a fan of them (but, on paper, I do like the inclusion of the instrumental "When You're Alone"), but these samples are sounding great.

Edit....yeah, double dipping, it is. This set just sounds too good and seems to have enough value to warrant the $40. Between this, Zorro, and Sneakers, I'm glad I have Capital One Rewards Cash on hand...LOL

I think regardless of how much extra/new music this 3CD set will feature, most fans of this score will be hoping the sonic upgrade, when compared to the 'rather choppy' sounding 2CD set, will be the main pull in having this fantastic score in their collections.
Did they find/use new elements, or has the tech evolved to make things that much better?

Either way, looks like I'll be getting 3/5 from this LLL batch (Williams and the Horner's).

I just did the same order. It might be a good thing that one of the $29.98 titles got delayed because if that's a Bond title, there's a good chance this would've been an even pricier order me!

I was listening to the film stem portion in LLL's previous "The Ultimate War: To War", and I forgot just how muddy it is compared to the rest of the track (admittedly I haven't listened to Hook in a while). What's drawing my attention is the extra material in the score presentation and all of those alternates.

Makes me glad I missed the last release. I had my fingers crossed this would get another go.

You are making a false assumption in this case. These tracks have melodies represented instrumentally. The bonus track is not even the same recording as the song version.

Thanks Mike. Often the 'instrumental' versions are as I described, which would be often called 'karaoke' tracks in Japan. And I noticed for the When Your Alone instrumental it's the same length (or like two seconds off), so it was an easy even if incorrect assumption.

So what you're saying that this release.....has got you hooked?

I'd be interested in getting just the songs, and put them together as a sort of mini version of what the original Peter Pan musical would have sounded like.

Hooking amazing. I'm so excited for this.

I'm hoping that it will contain the opening of "We Don't Wanna Grow Up" as heard in the film. A small tiny variation that I've always wanted to hear away from the film.

Regardless... can not wait!! Thanks to all involved xxx

While HOOK is by no means among my favorite Spielberg films, the music score is among my all time favorite Williams scores. I always liked the original soundtrack album, as that is a great listen, but was also happy when LLL released an expanded version with many interesting cues. But at that time, the music was pulled from different sources and was sonically not ideal (even though it was by no means a "bad" sounding release).

I hope this new set rectifies some of that, and it just looks wonderful. I have already ordered it (via Music Box France).

That passage is included in the samples on LLL's website.

There is no "original Peter Pan musical" to start with when it comes to the songs written for HOOK. Or at least, not in the way you probably have thought or known so far.

It's still early to reveal all the backstory and all the insight about the music and how this release has come together, but everything (and I mean *everything*) will be revealed at some point. The liner notes will have already a general account of all this, but for a proper deep dive about everything HOOK check on The Legacy of John Williams soon smile

You know... I hadn't even thought to check! I'm not used to being able to straight after the announcement smile Thanks Jay.

Maybe not. All I know is what's been written in Spielberg books over the years -- an aborted Peter Pan musical that was turned into what eventually became HOOK instead (the short version of it). I'd be interested to know more details.
