I haven't heard Kamen's Saxophone Concerto for quite a while, nor have I heard most of the sound samples for VENOM so I don't know if anything that later turns up in the Sax Concerto is in the film score. But it's material that eventually turns up in the Guitar Concerto that is featured in the film's main title at least - not the Sax (at least as far as I remember). The film provided several unintentional laughs and lots of scenery chewing by various artists. It's nice to see a previously unreleased score by Kamen being issued.

Amazing! Fantastic to find this score survived and sounds fab. Real treat for us Kamen fans. Great news, thank you Quartet! Although my postage is actually more than the cost of the CD.

So excited to have this one - a new, unreleased Kamen, joy!! The film is a riot, you can sense the Kinski-Reed tension. Yes, it's mostly a suspenser, but having an NPO 80's performance with Sid Sax at the helm - I've said it before, that band could play the hell outta anything, and are in fine form here. Instant order, and the lowest press this season I think at 1000 copies. -Sean

You might be right Simon, I'll have to check the film. Memory tells me it does use an upbeat take on the Adagio 2nd mvmt. from the Sax Concerto.

Quartet themselves refer to the Saxophone Concerto; they must know. But the main title music for VENOM certainly features the music that was eventually used for the Guitar Concerto (the third movement IIRC). Not that it's that important; I'll be ordering this one I think

Dya know what I love about this CD. You put it on, and within moments, whether you knew or not, it's unmistakable Michael Kamen. His music just shines with his singular voice. Wow, great post. (The rest too, I just saw no need to repeat it here.) Glad to hear that, as I ordered VENOM in the hope to hear just that. I want to hear "Michael Kamen", not necessarily "snake attacks kidnappers and hostages". What I respond to most in music (and in other arts too), is a singular, clear individual voice. A composer's voice is like handwriting, it may change over years, may be bold and large or elegant and swift, but it’s always individual and distinct. That's the kind of music I respond to, which is why I always bought film scores more by composer than by movie.
