Haha...mainly during this LP boom.
A fellow FSMer bought a chunk of them off me and I sold another pile to a dealer in London.
I've given some away to friends too.
I probably could have gotten a lot more selling them off individually (these were in MINT condition) but did bag over £1000 overall, which is fine by me and I like that they went to a loving home.

Thanks to the chats on this thread, I grabbed a few Pino CDs I haven't played in years.
Corruzione Al Palazzo Di Giustizia due to Damian's comment.
I did not know (or forgot) that this was only his second score (1975) after DON'T LOOK NOW and just before CARRIE.
It's an oddball effort, with a strange, almost comical tune dominating proceedings (in some sort of dance mode).
Nino Rota-ish, I guess. And a melancholy, VERY EUROPEAN lament style theme.
Enjoyable, but VERY quirky for Pino from this time.

I also grabbed DER MANN NEBENAN (aka A DEOM IN MY VIEW thriller starring Anthony Perkins), TWO EVIL EYES, LA MONICA DI MONZA and INDIO...but CORRUPTION is still playing as I type.

But keep 'em comin' smile

He's good but not in my favourites. I would love a release of Un Sussurro nel Buio (1976) which might be my favourite of his overall.

I can’t say to have heard some of the more popular soundtracks but what I listen to most are:

1) Dove Non Ho Mai Abitato (wonderful film and score)
2) Up at the Villa
3) Tchin Tchin - A Fine Romance (track “Play Something” just sublime)
4) The Order
5) Don’t Look Now

I think the thread might have been rekindled by a Bot who flew too close to the flame (ZAPPP!!!!)
Maybe?

Yes, I think that might be the case. But, since I'm here.... I recently picked up BLOW OUT (the Prometheus edition) and have played it about a dozen times in a week, just to get to know it, like I did back in ye olden daze. I did have the LP, so it was not totally new. I see that yooz lot rate this one pretty highly. I think that it's maybe mid-tier in that it does have those gorgeous Pino themes, but some of the suspense/ horror music is hard to get to grips with - the long-held "open" chords, the rat-tat-tat drum... and those occasional appearances of the very '80s electric guitar. It doesn't quite gel for me. I also watched the film again. It was "okay", then I went and read all the reviews about it, and they're mostly very positive, so I must have missed something. A lot of the critics heralded Nancy Allen's "warm" performance. I thought she was terrible. Then I went and watched De Palma's GREETINGS and HI MOM! and thought they were great. Closer to Woody Allen than anything Hitchcock, but you can see his pervy obsessions already, such as voyeurism. And big nods to Antonioni, Truffaut and... eventually The Cock (or the Hitch). Then I watched (BLOOD) SISTERS, with Benny Herrmann going mental on the woo-woo machine. Then I watched Woody Allen's BANANAS and loved it. All of the previous rabbit speaks the truth.

In summary -

Top-tier Pino - DON'T LOOK NOW, DRESSED TO KILL, CARRIE

Mid-tier Pino - TOURIST TRAP, PIRANHA, THE HOWLING, BLOW OUT

Other-tier Pino - I don't know. I haven't heard any of his "recent" (as in since the '80s) stuff.

Thanks for playing Graham, even if your opinions are a load of baloney (and every body knows that) smile

Incidentally, SISTERS is showing on UK TV tonight (Talking Pictures), which Pino Donaggio might have scored, if Bernard Herrmann had died earlier?

I have had an eye on the Pino PATRICK and his SEED OF CHUCKY, but I seem to recall that you (Ms. Gurdy) stated that they didn't do much for you. I take your opinions into consideration, unless they are... baloney.

SEED OF CHUCKY is pretty good, worth a punt if it's going cheap-ish.
Lots of demonic chanting and typical Pino Scary Drama-Rama, IIRC.
I'd need to play PATRICK again, it's bin-a-while, but I don't remember it doing that much for me.
I do love Pino though...quality composer.

Well...I tried several times to "give him a chance"wink..somehow he doesn't fit my ears...same with Patrick Doyle.
Cant tell what it is for Donaggio..for Doyle I always miss some notes / tapestry....well
So no favorite at all...sorry

There's been several of those in the last couple of days.

Playing Patrick now. It's OK, if not a classic list topper. The usual dominant strings n woodwind with a bit of brass. Not bad really. I'm not keen on some of the electronic parts, though. A bit noisy rather than musical.

I had a re-blast through those Pino scores that Graham mentioned (PATRICK & CHUCKY) and they are both Low-Level Pino for me.
Ruined somewhat by harsh/heavy electronics, ala Goldsmith, and blasts of rock-like music to nod towards the kids.
Some okay moments here and there (if you're a Pino Die Hard) but I'd save your Pesetas for something else, even gooder.
"May I interest you in some Lee Holdridge, Senor?"

It is hard though to resist the charms of the fishmonger's daughter, standing there outside my window, her generous wares on display for peanuts, and a load of old Pinos sticking out from all corners of her massive pink bloomers.

Here ya go, spook...

Great scene and score.

Up there with Gillian's Escape by John Williams from THE FURY and the Steps Lullaby sequence by Ennio Morricone from THE UNTOUCHABLES.
