"from two legendary composers" is interesting, and really would seem to narrow things down a bit... like, are John Powell or Marco Beltrami considered "legendary" at this point? I love them but I don't think so. He started a little earlier but I don't think John Debney would count either, so probably no expansions of The Scorpion King or Paulie, alas.

Probably folks that have been composing since at least the 80s, but probably higher profile than Lee Holdridge (so probably no expanded Mists of Avalon) or Cliff Eidelman (so no Christopher Columbus: The Discovery) or Joel McNeely (Soldier, Gold Diggers, Terminal Velocity) or Michael Small (Mobsters, Wagons East).

Maybe another Silvestri, like The Quick and the Dead? Or Patrick Doyle's amazing Carlito's Way? Michael Kamen's Hudson Hawk? Howard Shore's The Fly or M Butterfly? Christopher Young's The Dark Half or The Fly 2? George Fenton's Final Analysis? Elliot Goldenthal's Sphere or Demolition Man? Danny Elfman's Real Steel or maybe even Pee-Wee's Big Adventure? James Newton Howard's The Sixth Sense or The Happening? Basil Poledouris's For the Love of the Game or Hot Shots Part Deux?

But it seems even more likely that "legendary" would refer to even older composers, IMO, such as...

Elmer Bernstein (The Field? Frankie Starlight?)
Georges Delerue (Black Robe? Rich in Love?)
Jerry Goldsmith (Timeline? Malice? Maybe somehow one of the Fox/Disney-controlled things??)
Henry Mancini (Switch?)
David Raskin (Forever Amber, his magnum opus?)

But what I'm *really* hoping is one of these two, at long last, is the premiere CD release of the original film recording for Miklos Rozsa's Eye of the Needle, which Varese controls in perpetuity due to their German re-recording.

My initial thought was these names:
John Barry
Elmer Bernstein
Georges Delerue
Jerry Goldsmith
Maurice Jarre
Ennio Morricone
John Williams

Absolutely along the lines I was thinking, but I think Varese has already expanded all the Williams they control, and I think the only Barry remaining might be his unused score for Year of the Comet (which would be AMAZING to get!)

I'd have to double check on Jarre and Morricone.

Varese announcements used to be exciting. But now I worry more about what's gonna be wrong with 'em! :-(

A few more score suggestions, complete!

- Event Horizon

Some absolute must haves from Christopher Young

- FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC - they had the rights for the LP, so who knows

- THE FLY II - complete!

- THE DARK HALF - complete!

You've reminded me that Howard Shore's THE FLY could use a revisit if for no other reason than to properly sequence the score. That release seemed like a rushed effort and I don't know that it's been reissued since.

Just to create some robust discussion…

The more “expansions” I listen to these days, the more I conclude that original Varese cds at their 30-40 minute lengths, really presented the best of the score. Anyone else share this opinion?

I’m in NO WAY against expansions, particularly when the originals didn’t include score from the last reels because of time constraints etc…I just seem to go back to those original, shorter programs. Probably in the minority…interested in others thoughts!
