My Star Trek playlist still goes by that name and features the artwork. The album itself I don't seem to own any more.

I just bought this for BATTLE IN THE MUTARA NEBULA without the "wild" overlay from the FSM cd which I also have.

In the film, there is an additional musical sound effect mixed into “Battle In the Mutara Nebula.” This did not appear on the original soundtrack album or on The Astral Symphony, but was included on the FSM CD.

The effect is called “wild” because it isn't specifically synced to anything.

The only thing I am aware of was the slightly longer section of music during this sequence-

So the FSM CD corrected an omission that we'd gotten used to. A similar thing happened with THE OMEGA MAN. The "2.0" release added back a layer that was missing from one or two tracks on the original CD.

Thxs for the time stamp Henry, I'll check it out. I proudly own the original album, the expansion and the Astral Symphony.

The Astral Symphony wasn't re-recordings, was it? It was all the original album tracks?

I recreated the original album presentation of Battle using the FSM track. Now I have both!

It's not longer per se… it's just an additional layer that was added later on in the sound mix.

It was original album tracks, although the sonics on the selections from Wrath of Khan were much superior to those on the GNP Crescendo CD.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I've loved this album ever since I found it a few weeks before the release of Undiscovered Country in 1991. Cliff Eidelman is credited as producer, I think, and he did a great job of segueing between all five of the movies.

I think it is a great compilation and still pull it out from time to time. It was this album that really got me to appreciate Horner's Trek music, which I had kind of dismissed up till that time.

Yes, the Khan tracks seemed not to have the B.A.S.E. processing on them. I certainly recall them sounding better on the Astral Symphony CD compared with the GNP Crescendo CD.

Or as in the case of the OP, the original audiocassette. Still have it. Just got nothing to play it on. Progress!

Spinning this now. What a great compilation! Though it never dawned on me it's one film short of being a musical compilation of all the TOS era motion pictures. I'll have to add some tracks from Undiscovered Country!

This is a really good Best of album. I was just adding it to my iPod after not having heard it in a very long time due to it being in an attic in another country. It'd be a great introduction to Trek music for people starting to get into soundtracks or Trek music.

Which tracks will you add and where?

Well to begin with I made my own playlist order. One that I thought had a better flow musically speaking. I wanted a variety in the over all tempo and flow.

My Playlist Reorder:

Prologue And Main Title
The Enterprise
The Katra Ritual
Hospital Chase
Enterprise Clears Moorings
Ilia's Theme
Chekov's Run
Without Help
An Angry God
The Whaler
Battle In The Mutara Nebula
Returning To Vulcan
Genesis Countdown
The Meld
Home Again: End Credits
Life Is A Dream

As far as Star Trek 6 I haven’t played it in a long time but will probably go with the conservative cues that sound Star Trekkie, over the more exotic cues.

Off the top of my head I may pick some of these cues-

(1) Overture
(3) Clear All Moorings
(4) Assassination
(12) Sign Off
(13) Star Trek VI Suite

Which ones I pick and where I put them is yet to be determined.

Totally agree!

I have this CD and it is one of the oldest CD's I own. From about 1991. And still plays beautifully.

I played it recently just to convince myself that CD's, when produced well, are still far superior to vinyl in terms of longevity.

It had a bit of corrosion on the disc and though my old CD player struggled with it, my current DVD/CD player is able to play it without a problem. Not sure why this player is ok and the old one wasn't but not complaining.

Interestingly this CD carried the old AAD, ADD, and DDD information.

Star Trek TMP: AAD
Star Trek II & III: ADD
Star Trek IV & V: DDD

•AAD - analog recording, analog mixing, digital transfer;
•ADD - analog recording, digital mixing, digital transfer, and;
•DDD - digital recording, digital mixing, digital transfer.
