I don't understand why this would upset anyone here. Would you prefer these scores slipped out of print? Or just sit on store shelves silently gathering dust?

SONY paid MILLIONS for the rights to these titles and repackaging the current versions in to a box set with a BEST OF CD of already released tracks makes BUSINESS SENSE to them..

Of course, the irony is that they didn't have to, as they merged with RCA a short time later (if I'm remembering the time table right).

Reissuing over and over is a very common practice for the 'majors', and Sony probably does it more than anyone. I think many Glenn Gould recordings have had like 10 CD incarnations by now.

I remember they landed the rights for the soundtrack releases of just the three Star Wars prequels in 1999. They found themselves holding the rights of the original trilogy as well when Sony acquired BMG.

At this point in time, YES!

I want the Prequel scores to be given a LOTR style treatment damn it! Is that too much to ask for????

I mean hell a lot of people to this day have made their own complete intended editions for the Phantom Menace using all the unused material from the games and it's better than Sony's Crap Edition for the score.

so, 2 + 2 + 2 = 8 ??? Something's missing here...

13 tracks from 6 films means selecting 2 score tracks just from each score. Hard work!! Why dont they make it a double cd set?? (then it'd be 8 discs, perfect!)

They might also be inlcluding the DVD of the music cut to picture as well.

Or just the DVD from the Episode III release. It did feature music from both trilogies.

Childred,Children,Children.......

"lot of people" isn't really that many folks in the grand scheme of things..

As for super-deluxe edition like the LOTR's sets..

In time, IN time....

It's a business remember?

They'll get to it after they have sold this one and the market has cleared out a bit...

Perhaps in time for a New STAR WARS venture of some sort.

All good things come to those who wait...

Chill out alright?

It is that - a waiting game. Star Wars isnt going away any time soon (though its well may have been empty far longer than Star Trek) and an expanded prequel release is pretty much inevitable. I just hope its not like the Ultimate Edition of TPM (poor editing, worse packaging)

I'd be more interested in Walker's Batman TAS material, which has a less and less of a chance to surface as time goes on - but I digress...

I guess so... by the way there is the live action series coming in 2009 or 2010...so maybe they'll be released by then, who knows...

All I know is for now I'll live with my complete edit for The Phantom Menace that I made, which I'm very happy about since it took forever to really nail down the edits smoothly and make everything sound the same.

The "Star Wars" movies are not only movies, but a brand! And a good one...
Why waste money on expanding releases, if you can sell the same stuff over and over again with just changing the cover image? There are enough "Star Wars" die hard fans (maybe some who do not even care for the music on the CDs) who buy these CDs as collectors' items. Same goes for artists like the Beatles or Elvis Presley - and the industry takes full advantage of it...

That may well be true. I thank the heavens I'm not one of them. Lordy.

Before you get too self-rightous just remember the single most important thing:

No One puts a gun to the head of anyone who buys these things.

They don't call it the Music Business or Movie Business for nothing.

That's just the cold hard truth of the matter.

If they didn't sell, they wouldn't make them.

No ... that would be illegal. But they are very well aware that the release of new shiny boxes does bring about pressure for every Williams fan. For you see, salesman Ford, we're all victims of the consumer society.

Oh, please.

When companies offer choices, we cry. When companies DON'T offer choices, we cry.

There's no "pressure" on THIS WIlliams fan. I have all this music; I ain't buyin' it again. I'd love a LOTR-type version; I won't by anything but.

The pressure is from you, and its origins are in your own lack of self-control. Your victim pose is only a way of excusing your own weakness, your own desire to own, own, own so you can feel some second-hand sense of achievment.

You don't want it? Don't buy it.

Is that so hard?

Ford,

I'm not getting self-righteous. I didn't say, that I'm any "better" wink Although the "Star Wars" scores may not be among the titles I'd buy over and over again, I have for example, purchased all the re-issues of the Bond scores that were on Ryko again, just to have a consistent line in the shelf - although there may not be any difference in sound quality or content. A fine addition to the three different CDs of the Capitol album of the "Giant" score I have wink

This is true. It's just annoying, because them releasing it this way means they aren't releasing it a better way.
THAT is what the main bitching is about, I'm sure.
