there's a typo in the liner notes calling TOURIST ATTRACTION "Tourist Trap" also...but who's counting?

Charles or Bruce,

Can you check your copy of THE OUTER LIMITS COMPANION. There is an episode which is known by another title and it's not THE GALAXY BEING. I believe it may have been TOURIST ATTRACTION, FUN AND GAMES, or SECOND CHANCE.

SECOND CHANCE aka JOY RIDE

Thanks, Charles.

okay...the DVD sets are not perfect but are far better than putting up with old VHS tapes with dropouts or tracking errors. I have rewatched some of them recently to reference the new CD cues again and think they look watchable enough, and perhaps hopefully one day a more comprehensive remastering might be done.(with extras)

was the music from the pilot THE UNKNOWN aka FORMS OF THINGS UNKNOWN reused in any eps?

i know three cues on the cd were not used for the ep that aired and LATER turned up in THE INVADERS.

since FORMS was the seaon one finale and they changed to Lubin for second season it wasn't used again. One of the cues (a variation) shows up in A NAME FOR EVIL (when Culp drops the lantern in the basement)

i suspect some of the cues i singled out as being tracked may have been intended for that particular ep after all. Television shows do not always air in the order they were produced so Frontiere might have composed an "original"
score for an ep that aired AFTER his music was first used.
Confused?

The 'love theme' originally composed/used for THE HUMAN FACTOR was memorably re-used in the classic ep A FEASIBILITY PROJECT. You can hear it at the powerful finale when the abductees hold hands.

A fantastic piece of music.

Ha! You said that ten years ago, and I've been babbling on about the same cue in three different threads today! Yes, I first heard that cue in "A Feasibility Study" and just assumed it had been written for that, it was so perfect. When I later saw the show it had actually been written for ("The Human Factor"), the music didn't make half the impression on me than it had had in the tracked episode.

STAR TREK (TOS) is another one where the use of re-tracked music usually worked wonders. Those composers (and then music editors) worked wonders.

I've often said, only half-jokingly, that with the amount of original music already written for film and TV since the beginning of time, we could just get rid of all composers writing "original scores" today and track in some stuff from the library. In the olden days (Star Trek, Outer Limits, Universal SF films of the '50s, Universal horror films of the '40s), it even gave a certain inner coherence to the "franchises" (even if they weren't really franchises).

But that was off-topic. "The Outer Limits" guys sure knew about The Joy of Tracking.

This is the first and last word on the series, as far as I'm concerned. OOP, but I hear a new edition is forthcoming, so wait a bit before you plunk down heavy coin,

Is the new edition going to have more music plus the sound effects library from the G.N.P. Crescendo C.D.?

Are you joking, since they're referring to the Schow episode guide, not soundtrack cds?

There is a music guide book by Reba Wissner.

Still, it would be interesting if there was an expanded C.D. set with both the Frontiere and Lubin music, plus the sound effects library.

If any of you follow Film Score Rundowns on youtube, he's doing a series of cues from Outer Limits lately. I sent him a recreation (using high end sample libraries) I made of "Coffee Time" from "Controlled Experiment," and he's just posted a video using it. Go to the 48 second mark to listen.

I'll be doing more recreations soon, including cues from The Mice and Nightmare.
