Coincidentally, I watched the movie for the first time last night. It's pretty awful but I liked parts of the score (even though a lot of it is buried in the mix). The best action cues were when Davis dropped the Williams mannerisms and let his own voice shine.

JUST TELL ME WHAT CUES TO LISTEN TO

Is this a "tell me what type of music I like" type thing or a "I wholly and deeply despise film music and really music in general and if I'm being totally honest any type of sound that resembles music, so where should I begin?" type thing?

Either way, the answer is "Tiny Pecking Pteranodons," followed by "Billy Oblivion."

Yes there is - it's even worse; it almost sounds mono.

But mono has nothing to do with audio quality, merely channel separation (or lack thereof). Now, if we're talking mono backups 50 dupes removed, that's not related to mono, just signal loss. smile

The movie's on Netflix and I want to watch it for the score, but that would require me watching it again so I'm torn.

It's a(n) "I don't have time to wade through 70 minutes that I haven't listened to in 17 years, so tell me some highlights so they might grab me upon your recommendation" thing.

I don't remember the name of the cues exactly, but I'd say the better JP3 cues would be Raptor Room and Billy Oblivion.

I see. Well then, yes, as kasey says "Raptor Room" is excellent as well.

If you want a shortish 25-min program of highlights, you might try:

Isla Sorna Sailing Situation
The Raptor Room
Raptor Repartee
Tree People
Tiny Pecking Pteranodons
Billy Oblivion
Bone Man Ben

Thanks for the refreshers. Of course it plays much fresher now than it did in 2001, when there was still some hope, but for the most part it's still just way too busy to really get into. It's like two Matrix scores playing on top of each other while the JP themes pop in and out. I'll give it a few more years!

Hi buddy! I think JURASSIC PARK III is half an hour too short, they forgot the ending. It's anticlimactic.

I think the film is 92 minutes long. So, cut 92 minutes...

Actually I'm glad it's too short, I didn't have to suffer through it as long.

Even the title is uninspired and lazy.

"uninspired and lazy" -- the motto for all the sequels from JPIII onward.

To think, my opinion of JP: TLW is better now in comparison!

I'll take Jurassic Park III over the rest of the sequels any day of the week. TLW is probably the worst film Spielberg did, along with Minority Report.

What about it do you dislike?

Yavar

The only parts I like are Williams themes. I guess my hatred of the film spills over to the soundtrack.

As we get older we become more in agreement. wink

Sorry about the complaining about the film. I got it off my chest and feel better now. I get passionate about these things, positive and negative.
