I have made a ton of great finds used...some of the more recent ones:
Powder by Goldsmith for $2.99
The Spirit of St. Louis by Waxman for $1.99
Tom and Huck by Endelman for $1.99
Ben-Hur (2 Disc booklet) by Rozsa for $8.00
Robin Hood Men in Tights by Mann for $15.00
V: The Final Battle by McCarthy for $8.00

Man, you lucked out on Powder, cause thats one I've tried to purchase on Ebay a few times and always got outbid.

Mick

The store I found that in only had a total of 30 score cd's...and that was the best of the bunch by far. They had no idea what they had there!!!

Sadly, Cincy has little in the way of decent used stores, with maybe the exception of Everybody's Records. Unfortunately, they cater toward the rock crowd and don't have a lot of interest in our little sub-group.

True, but aren't those the kinds of stores where you can find treasures? Where the store clerks don't have a clue about soundtracks and therefore put them out at ridiculously low prices?

Wish so. I stop by once or twice a year, but it's never been worth the effort. I have more luck maintaining a wish list on Amazon and watching for things there. Unfortunately, that doesn't work well for serendipity. I do have one store up the street, but he's had less and less over the past two years. He often got a lot of punchouts, but those have dwindled to nothing.

I wouldn't even know where to start since I love to look through second-hand and bargain bins precisely because you never know what you'll find. I did find a ton of French soundtracks (Coulais, Rombi, Sarde, etc) for a couple of dollars each at a warehouse sale in July, which was the single biggest haul for me in 2008.

Two weeks ago I was visiting family in Elmira, NY. At a chain CD/DVD store in the mall there, I found used copies of Goldsmith's "The Shadow" and Zimmer's "Radio Flyer", for $5 each.
Made the long drive from Florida totally worth while.

That's a nice find.. the Rhino Ben Hur!!! Lucky you. (I have that one too, but I paid a bit more though)

Love this topic! I found many nice stuff in bins... some of the noteworthy ones are:

Rocketeer sealed (2 euro)
Rocketeer unsealed (1 euro)
Balto sealed (5 euro)
Ghost and Mrs. Muir (Bernstein re-recording) sealed (6 euro)
Spies Like Us (CD) (5 euro)
The Shadow (3 euro)
The Sand Pebbles re-recording sealed (8 euro)
Powder (5 euro)
The River (5 euro)
Chapter III's El Cid (8 euro) That was well before the announcement of Tadlow's re-recording
Jungle Book - Poledouris (5 euro)
Lion in Winter - the old Varese (6 euro)
... and two very weird releases from a lable called Trax Music... for 2 euro each: The Ten Commandments (Bernstein) and The Robe (Newman) (the tracks and sound are all fine, only the artwork is very lame)

and... hahaha this one; BLACK BEAUTY SEALED (5 euro)

and many more, but can't remember all... but it always give an immense feeling when you discover such bargains, especially when they are rare!

Recently picked up from a 1.50€-a-CD (read: 2$-a-CD) stand:

Grabowsky, NOAH'S ARK (very nice)
Cooder, BLUE CITY and JOHNNY HANDSOME (oh well...)
Goldsmith, MALICE (see Grabowsky)
Newman, MEET THE PARENTS (nice once you program out the songs)
Newman, BOWFINGER (somewhat ok)
McNeely, HOLLYWOOD '94 (good)
McNeely, HOLLYWOOD '96 (ok)

Love the choir part in Malice... picked that one up too from a bin for 3 euros.

ps... one friend of mine gave me Basic Instinct for free... (he doesn't know anything regarding filmmusic) he thought it had that disco music from that scene in the movie on it, haha!)

... and a few more scores that I paid the full price for at that time back in the '90's for... (39.95 guilders)..., but happy that I did... were Raiders (expanded version from '95) and Conan the Barbarian (Varese expanded) and one of my favorite Horner efforts: "Once Upon a Forest (what a gem!!!) in particular.

One more thing... a long time ago I found SEALED in one of those weird packed cd's (with a hard paper long sleeve at the back, wrapped together with the cd kind of thing... anyway it was a early cd kind of packaging idea) ... it was *Batteries not included... bought it for 10 guilders at that time. (around 4 euros)... I was happy as a child, for it was a Horner score that I always liked and didn't have... and it was rare as hell. A few weeks later it got stolen out of my locker at school together with my Discman (I told you it was long ago) Didn't really gave the discman a second thought... but man... I literally cried that they took *batteries not included too. And the worst thing is... I'm pretty sure they threw this score away and only kept the player of course... assholes!!! Why didn't they took only that stupid player... but they took my rare baby too... wheeeh!!!

oh yeah, suddenly remember, one of my first lucky finds in the early '90's was Willow for 5 guilders!!! (2 euro) and Land Before Time... for 10 guilders... (4 euro)

I also found volume 4 of Rosenthal's Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

That one still eludes me. frown

I was in a local cd store a year or so ago and they had nearly all of the expanded Bond cds for 8 or 9 bucks each. Sadly I was a bit short that day and only grabbed Goldfinger. When I went back a few days later on payday they were gone. frown

One of classics I found was J. Williams score to the Empire of the Sun for $5.99. I did not buy it. I already have the score.

I always hate that...finding a great price on a score you already have. frown

Got over to Amoeba on Saturday and found copies of Rounders, Bilitis, (Francis Lai) Brewster McCloud, and Murder In The First pretty cheap.

Found Harry Gregson-Williams Gone Baby Gone FYC score CD for a buck (currently only available as a download, and shy 2 tracks). Also found FYC CDs for As Good as it Gets, LOTR: Return Of the King.

Unfortunately, I wanted to sell off some CDs to Amoeba (to take less of a hit on my credit card) and was told they are cutting back on stuff they're buying and will be paying out less for cash or trade (Hopefully, this won't last too long, as I've gotten some good trade slips from them lately). I opted to keep my CDs.

I travel occasionally for my job, and when I do I try to stop into the local thrift stores and used cd stores looking for a deal. Last week in Central Kentucky I got lucky.

From the $1 clearance bin in Half Price Books:

Michael Kamen Last Action Hero
Basil Poledouris Mas Musica! (Starship Troopers)
Edward Shearmur Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Laurence Rosenthal Logan's Run (tv) (this takes the sting out of missing Meteor)
Alan Silvestri The Abyss
James Horner The Mask of Zorro
Eric Serra The Messenger
Jerry Goldsmith Basic Instinct
John Ottoman Superman Returns
John Debney The Passion of Christ
John Williams Minority Report
Harry Lubin One Step Beyond
various Amazing Stories One (intrada)
various Amazing Stories (varese)
various Monsterous Movie Music
various More Monsterous Movie Music
various Sci-Fi's Greatest Hits vol.2 The Dark Side
various Sci-Fi's Greatest Hits vol.3 The Uninvited
various Return of Cult Fiction

Not all of these are my taste in ost, but for a buck I couldn’t go wrong and give them a try. I also picked up OHM: early gurus of electronic music 3cd+1dvd set ($15) and the book, Album Cover Art of Soundtracks ($10).

From a local thrift store I picked up these two for $2.5. These seemed expensive after spending a dollar earlier in the week.

John Powell I am Sam
Randy Newman Pleasantville
Patrick Doyle Henry V
