Sounds pretty good to me. Definitely some Williams influences here. Reminds me of the first time I listened to Giacchino's Medal Of Honor.

I feel this is definitely going to be a purchase, and hopefully a new composer to keep an eye on for future projects.

This is put definitely on my radar. It's great to discover new talents--kudos to Mikael for bringing them on!

I concur.

A trumpet player, eh?

That's a good omen in my book...

I guess you read his length reply to my questions eh?

I certainly did - and it was refreshing to hear some assertively voiced negative opinions rather than the usual bland interview responses. This guy has something to say, both musically and extra-musically, and I'll be listening!.

AH, but he could easily get banned. ;-) His enthusiasm for Sibelius must have you hopping up and down, I imagine (much to the distress of the home ceilings that are only 3 inches above your head). Have you informed Cindy/Cat about his 'homage'?

And just where on the Internet can one HEAR samples from this much apprecaited score?

If only it were Sibelius the composer rather than the software...but Mr P is a top bloke and can jot his notes down on the side of a cow for all I care. And fortunately I have 8' ceilings, which gives me sliiiightly more headroom than you fondly imagine.

just as an aside, composing in a notation program like Sibelius, Finale or Notion is analogous to composing with pencil and manuscript. It's the sequencer=realtime writing which is more difficult to get a handle on when writing for orchestra in my experience.

Pity. I was conjuring in my mind a house with a great many punctures. Will have to just settle for the puns.

The composer's website states this music should be available at Amazon, but alas it is not.

This sounds interesting, but where is the movie? Has it opened? Will it open -- or go direct to video? As a general rule, I try never to audition a film score before I've seen the movie.

Yeah it;s hard to come by. I would like to see it as I'm a martial arts fan/practitioner so this project appeals to me. I think you can listen to the score on its own however- it paints a pretty vivid picture without the need to see the film- it's old school in that way. Pretty awesome stuff. I would like your opinion on it though since your screen name would indicate you are a devout fan of a composer whose style Peterson evoked.

Um, I think just settling for the score when you want to see the film isn't very helpful. It was an independant film that opened on Sept 9th. It may still be floating about in art house movie theaters.

OK, it takes something really interesting, unique and memorable to get my attention nowadays in new film music... that 9 minute clip just did it. I played it from start to finish and kept me engaged the entire time and I really dug it. Absolutely a buy!

I have now finally had a chance to listen to this score and I have to say that I find it fantastic. It's bold, strong, distinctive, pulsating, driving music. An absolute delight to find such composition in today's sea of all too bland scores. This one punches above it's weight and screams 'I'M HERE!'

Great stuff.

Ok, so I recently got this and listened to it twice.

Either everyone's ear here completely suck, or something is wrong with my disc -- the sound quality is bad. I mean, it has "recorded in the next room" syndrome.
Why has noone mentioned this?

It's a great score and I'd hate to lose it, but I mean....what's up with that?

Also, the lack of notes, especially about just what the heck the 'Moving Images Suite' is? Is it a bunch of other movie cues? Concert music inspired by movie music? Maybe concert music with film themes integrated? What?

I remember asking Mikael Carlsson about the sound issues not long after the release of this. Essentially, it's not a fault. That was what the label received and I assume from this that what you hear was how the score was recorded.

It definitely does sound sub-par though.

I agree with everything you just said. The recording is indeed muddy, and where are the notes? What the heck is the Moving Images suite?

Moving images was previously composed by James Peterson and he convinced MSM to include it after the score because there was room on the disc. Its completely unrelated to the soundtrack. I'm not sure I hear the muddy or poor recording everyone is complaining about though.
