This is a comments thread about FSM CD: Islands in the Stream

I'm very relieved its 5000 copies, that's a first isn't it?

No, lots of CDs have had 5000 copies printed. But I know what you mean - you mean as in "limited at 5000". But that's not a first either. BTTF and Boys From Brazil did that first, didn't they?

What I love about FSM is they negotiate quantities to keep it available for sale, not to sell it out in the shortest possible time. Good on them. In the limited quantity mania that grips us now, I think many people have forgotten that the purpose of this business is to make soundtracks available, not to make them rare quicker than you can blink.

Cheers

Thank God for Greyhound and Bruce Kimmel! If it weren't for he, this would be impossible. Instead, it's more than possible, it's HERE!

I wrote a letter when I was 21 to Tony Thomas at Citadel asking about the feasiblilty of his releasing this (this was autumn, 1977)- he wrote back thanking me for my comments and just said, "Do you know any rich backers?" Hell, I was working part time and going to school... big grin

Exactly my opinion, too, and why FSM is #1 in my book.

I agree about the 5000 quantity, it's nice to see it not getting thrown at the wolves. I just placed my order.

I couldn't be more happier with this release because I abhor the re-recording. I grew so fond of the unmentionable, I can't spin that disc. I own the original Intrada CD release, not the later version, but man. For me is a rerecording that sounds flat. I don't know what Goldsmith was thinking.

So it will be a blessing to finally hear this played without a tsunami of tape hiss in the foreground!

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. big grin I've never seen the movie (I have it in my Netflix list, though), but have had the Intrada rerecording for years. It'll be a treat to have Goldsmith's original recording at last. And thanks to FSM for increasing the print run to 5000 units, as I can probably take my time.

Wow. Just wow. We decompress from 2009 and on comes 2010 and starts off just as the last year left. And the samples sound terrific. So I guess not only should we thank FSM and SAE but also Bruce for saving a the life of a piece of film scoring history. Cheers.
