Does anyone know also if some cues were only composed by Mancina or Rabin?
Don`t know for sure but I think the majority is by Rabin since I think Rabin have said that Mancina wasn`t available most of the time when the music was supposed to be written since Mancina apparently had another movie he worked on at the same time. I think it could be Speed 2 that Mancina worked on simultaneously with this one.
I remember back in late 1996 when this teaser started to show up after The Rock had done the multiplexes and Bruckheimer action was as its hottest...Damn dumb fun times it was and this teaser trailer was made like a Fuxxing Rock Trailer featuring that bad ass voiceover and those guitarriffs...
Great they put that on the soundtrack. Regarding an expansion or complete release, although the soundtrack album is great in terms of action pieces and themes, I think I would cave and get a complete version. It's just such a fun score and one of those times when I saw a movie and wanted to get the score because I couldn't get it out of my head.
Just giving this a spin now, and while no work of art it is great fun. The Junk and a number of Hollywood Producers could learn a few things from Rabin and Mancina about how to score a blockbuster movie.
I just talked to Rabin about this film in my latest podcast interview. The soundtrack is a bit uneven, but the highlights are really cool. He had to adher to the style of the time, though.

I for one liked that MV style for the most part. The only score that I have had difficulty enjoying is Enemy of the State out of 90's Bruckheimer action films.
Con Air is among the MV-iest of MV scores. It was one of the very first film scores I ever purchased. There’s a lot of fun stuff going on, from grungy vocals to Rabin’s heavenly electric guitar. This is a breed of film score unique to its time, and one we’ll never see again.
Thor, did you talk at all with Rabin about Deep Blue Sea?
Thor, did you talk at all with Rabin about Deep Blue Sea?
I did indeed. I've always loved the film, but haven't really spent time with the soundtrack over the years. So revisiting it prior to this interview was a revelation. What a great, operatic approach (and lovely, airy guitars as well).
Just listened to (and loved) that interview, Thor! I truly miss Rabin's sound in the modern day blockbuster. As corny as Armageddon, Con Air, or Gone in 60 Seconds may be, they have more emotion than the average blockbuster coming out today. Loved the bit about The 6th Day, as that is one of my favorite Rabin scores!

Deep Blue Sea was (is) a major guilty pleasure film for me and Rabin’s score is gorgeous. I had never thought of it as “operatic” before, but you’re right, there is a grandeur and a splendor to his sea music that fit that description.
I appreciate what Rabin mentioned about the impossibility of writing a shark theme that doesn’t in some way evoke Jaws. His own shark theme brings Jaws to mind with its relentless build but is still very much its own thing.
With so much music missing from the album, I really hope this one gets the expanded treatment some day. This is a score that deserves to be heard.
Can't really see Intrada doing it. Did they EVER release an MV/RC score?
Not that I can think of, but it'd be nice if they started! Lots of great mid to late-90's scores could use expanding: Crimson Tide, The Rock, Con Air, Armageddon (Harry Gregson-William's music still NEEDS to be released!!!), Enemy of the State... Not sure who owns Face/Off (I believe Hollywood Records released the soundtrack which had a great presentation of the score, but was missing probably more than half the score.)
I'd buy an expanded Con Air soundtrack instantly. No hesitation. The full Overture track would be worth the price alone to me. I'd also love to have the full trailer music (not the teaser, but the trailer).
