Strange that there haven't been any official DVD's of documentaries on John Williams yet. Several programs, interviews etc., but nothing that has had an official release. Unless some of those Boston Pops thingies have been released?

You're absolutely right, Thor.

It is very sad that there is no official DVD with John Williams's concert or stand-alone documentary even though many of them have been broadcasted on TV around the world, for example excellent BBC specials on TESB and ROTJ, PBS Evening at Pops concerts, etc.

I remember BBC's TESB doc which was fantastic, was there a BBC doc on ROTJ though? I remember some footage of the ROTJ recording sessions being included in a 20/20 feature called Music for the Jedi, but don't recall a BBC special. Does anybody have any further info on this?

What about CD-ROM extras on soundtracks? Do they count? Or does that pretty much fall into the category of film music extras on DVD's (and hence not relevant for this thread)?

I have a (taped off of PBS' "Great Performances") airing of "John Barry: Moviola" but I was surprised it was never issued on VHS/DVD. Barry mentions it briefly at the top of http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/features/barry.asp , as well as a BBC TV documentary (not sure if that came to fruition).

The BBC TV documentary was in 2000, but unfortunately it has not been released on DVD. Apparently there is a longer version, too, that the BBC were going to screen, but never have.

On the 8 1/2 bonus DVD, there is a 47:30 documentary about Nino Rota. Pretty nice. Called "Between Cinema and Concert, and its from 1993. So, Criterion Collection 2001.

On the Apocolypse Now Redux DVD there is a magazine article by Bob Moog about the synth effects used in the movie (e.g., helicopter synth), and some other stuff related to the recording techniques used in the film. Bob Moog "The Synthesizer Soundtrack of Apocolypse Now" -- it's actually a reprint of an eariler article whose title and or pubication I cannot recall.

I thought Stanley Clarke gave a 15 min discussion on the Boyz In The Hood Deluxe DVD; this requires confirmation

I wonder if the Soncinemad Film Music Concert in Madrid, Spain 4 years ago ever will be released on DVD? I do remember that they where filming all the seminars and I think that they filmed the concert(s). Thankfully one of the concerts was released on CD.
