Thanks for the confirmation on the ST:TNG box! It is nice to know beforehand for a change so I can set the money aside for it. Anxiously awaiting its release!

Wow! The TNG box, at $149.95, comes out to $10.71 per disc. That's one hell of a good deal. Considering the fees and all the work you put into it, that's fricking cheap. Thank you for what will be an amazing release.

Damn, I'm glad I didn't get around to spending that money on Spartacus. ;-)

ST:TNG Ron Jones boxset...this is spectacular news Lukas! Well I think this could be an early b-day/X-mas gift for me. I will give hints to my wife and family LOL.

Thank you again Lukas and FSM for another great release. I love Star Trek overdose wink

I've read this half a dozen times now - and it is possible to interpret that "The Best Of Both Worlds" is not included in its entirety - presumably because the licence still being held by GNP/Crescendo.

This would be incredibly disappointing for 2 reasons:

1. It's the piece de resistance of Jones' TNG output. The centrepiece of his work. Any set would be dramatically incomplete without it.

2. GNP's original CD is flawed with several digital pops. I was incredibly excited about getting a newly minted disc!

Please say it isn't so!!

I'm right there with you and I hope Lukas's wording means otherwise. I'd find it strange if he somehow had the right to license unreleased music from an episode GNP has perpetuity rights to (ie. it doesn't work that way for films, for example only Varese can put out unreleased music from Robocops 2 and 3; Intrada presumably can't put out a disc of just the unreleased music because Varese has the licenses for any music for the films).

What I do know is that if The Best of Both Worlds *isn't* complete and remastered on the set, it won't be through Lukas's lack of trying. He just told us it was his "dream project" and I'm sure he's aware it's the piece de resistance of Jones's TNG output. The fact that Lukas also went above and beyond to include the two Interplay scores for Starfleet Academy and Starfleet Command (I'm sure that was additional licensing trickiness, especially since that official release of Starfleet Academy was aborted after printing by Christopher Franke's Sonic Images label) shows how definitive he wants this to be (those are really good scores, by the way).

Incidentally, I wonder how Heart of Glory is affected -- Lukas didn't single it out (ie. "unreleased cues from") yet GNP put out a two-track suite on The Best of Star Trek, Vol. 1.

Personally I couldn't be more excited for this set even if BoBW isn't included, and it helpfully comes out right around my birthday (thanks for that, Lukas).

Yavar

EDIT: P.S. I just checked IMDb and Ron Jones did 42 TNG episodes, including the two-part Best of Both Worlds, so it looks like it isn't included since Lukas specified 40 complete episode scores. frown

We could only use 5 minutes of "Best of Both Worlds" due to the existing GNP Crescendo CD. Sorry but there was nothing I could do. We grabbed the best 5 min. of unreleased cues, like the Borg approaching Saturn. (We do have Heart of Glory in its entirety.)

I've been on a TNG kick the past month or two, and I started really taking note of the music after the episode "11001001," and not just because of the scene where Riker plays with his trombone (heh). There's this great synth-laden theme that tied the whole episode together, and it reminded me of Goldsmith so much that I had to read the end credits to make sure it wasn't him. It was, of course, Ron Jones, and I've been taking note of his episode scores ever since. Not because I see his name listed, but because I hear the music and it's good. His music definitely made a difference in the show, and to have a set of his TNG scores will be epic.

Thanks so much for doing this, Lukas. Posting upcoming releases. I wish all the labels would do. It's an incredible help - in life!!!

re: TNG - If this is going to turn into a mope session that we could not include the two scores you already have, rather than giving you the 40 you did not, then I quit. I honestly don't want to hear it. There was nothing I could do.

but GNP's was released so long ago and you guys do such stellar remasteringsmile Not moaning, Lukas. Just thought a sonic improvement could benefit the score since so many new audio tools have appeared since the original CD.

The Ron Jones TNG box set is an absolute dream, I seriously can't believe it is actually happening and I will actually be able to enjoy scores like "Data's Day", "Booby Trap" and "The High Ground" on disc. This is amazing. I'm going to keep coming to this thread every day and simply adding "This is amazing".

Lukas, you have truly done some stellar projects, I don't even know how anyone can select favorites, but for this old-school TNG fan, you have made my year! You are awesome.

Didnt FSM run a post sometime or some did which episodes would you have for cd compilation etc?

Anyways I hope that was the marketing research data plan for this release. I cant wait to pull out my old dvds of the 1st and 2 season.

I was probably expecting a mix of Dennis McCarthy & Ron Jones season wise sets but an exclusive on Ron Jones is great way to go about because Lukas could do a Dennis McCarthy set later on once this set sells of (and it will!)

Just hope we can get some classic Fred Steiner "Code of Honor" score somewhere in between as a bonus!

And it would be wonderful if Lukas can share the entire 40 episode list

By the way, this is turning out to be a very good year for film music fans. I just hope I don't die in some freaking air crash or some accident this year!

With SPARTACUS on order, two copies, and looking forward to more of DOCTOR WHO, not to mention any other surprises in the upcoming months, I'm passing on a TNG set. I can't justify buying this with at best one play. Except for expanded releases of the movies, my Star Trek buying days are history.

I'd rather have some chocolate chip cookies than another CHIPS album, but an exception will be made for more Fielding. smile

Lukas,

Shame about TBOBW, but DAMN, this looks like one HELL of a set !!!

I for one feel that I may be getting a LOT poorer.

This is giving me something to seriously ponder smile

Arse. I wouldn't mind if GNP had done these things properly - but they didn't.

I'm guessing they've locked the original series scores they released into some black licencing hole too :-(

And Generations. And First Contact. And Insurrection!

The IMDB can tell you that quite quickly.

You must do what you feel is right, of course.

As for me, I can hardly wait to spin the Ron Jones discs endlessly!

Noooo, please don't quit. You are a hero man. This box set is a dream come true. The TNG scores had a huge influence on me. They are part of the reason why I'm interested in film scores. Great work Lukas.
