I've never been a great fan of Mr. Zimmer's works but have found myself liking some of his scores more and more ... Pearl Harbour is a great pleasure and whilst I've failed to survive the film on two occasions, I love his score to The Da Vinci Code. His score to The Last Samurai is also highly enjoyable and I have several others. In most cases I've bought blind.

So this week I decided to buy Inception. No, I've not seen the film - my adult son suggested it would probably not be to my liking - and when I mentioned I was going to buy the score he tried to warn me that it was dominated by repetitive thumping.

Third play last night ... sitting and listening rather than doing something else, such as browsing the internet. I don't think I shall play it again ... CD now listed for re-sale.

And I shall try to hear samples before buying any more scores by Mr. Zimmer.

Edit: Update ... listed this morning ... now sold smile

There's a couple of outstanding tracks on the CD (Dream Is Collapsing, Dream Within a Dream), but the rest isn't particularly to my taste. Of course, it's a dreamy-like score... just not something that I can get into.

I liked the two download-only bonus tracks more than most of the CD. Why weren't those two included on disc? Would have been nice to have those in CD quality...

I actually think Sherlock Holmes is a better score than Inception.

My first few listens, it put me right to sleep. But it's grown on me, and I now enjoy it quite a bit.
