Why don't you just simple listen to it ? wink

Didn't The Cat say that the source for the new CD was not the original album master? Which is why there is an additional cue?

I thought the additional cue was take from the movie, or an ultra rare LP edition, or something. The majority is transferred from the Varese CD as far as I know.

In fact there's no extra cue. The track "Entering the Castle" IS included in the Varese CD Club (Suite Part II - from 11:30 to 13:40).

In any case it is a fantastic score everyone should have in its collection, the Main Titles, the Love Theme and the Fighting The Soldiers (with the chorus singing "Sonja, Sonja") are great.

Because if I buy a cd, I want to get a "cd quality" source (master tapes).
If the master tapes were lost, and the cd is a vinyl rip, I hope there will be a warning from the productor on the jewel case "this cd was taken from a vinyl surce".
So there will be no problems: what You read on the package is what You got.

If not, I want to have a master tape cd quality sound.

No warning or other advisory were printed on the cd, so I want a REAL cd, a master tape cd.
BUT months ago Perseverance on his website was searching for the rare LP (and they found it).

So the question is: what about the LP? What about the source?
I want to know what I have bought.
It's a "customer care" question.

There is a looong story behind this release, but it's not something I personally feel comfortable sharing. In fact, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't even read it, so I'll just cut to the jist - there was no LP involved in the release. I don't know a lot more because I was only working with wav files during my work on this release. Why should anyone get this release?

- It sounds as good / slightly better than the Varese CD (and this is based on who you ask - it certainly doesn't sound worse)
- It's actually in print and doesn't cost an ungodly amount of money.
- There are actual tracks on this release - not just two suites of strung together material
- The score is chronologically presented unlike the two suites above
- The release is as complete as humanly possible and I think covers 80%-90% percent of the whole music.
- And I hope some of you do take the time to read the liner notes, which I had a lot of fun doing.

That's it. Based on the above imformation, I think every adult can decide whether he wants to buy this or not.

I guess Holly Mitchell is ineligible to buy this CD...

*If* this is ultimately a rip from the Varese Club, I see nothing wrong with that. But I *can* see why there might be hesitation to reveal information like that to the pack of wolves which make up a good percentage of this board's readership.

I didn't purchase this release as I'm happy with the Varese, but kudos to you guys for getting this out there to those who have been clamoring for it since it sold out. Looking forward to your next releases!

Finally got mine today...and what a trip! I'm having a great time listening to this one, in combination with Conan, this has been an awesome week musically, for me at least :-) It's been so long since I had seen the movie, but I instantly was taken back by the galloping main title. Thanks to all involved for this release...I'm loving every minute of it!

We've listened to this several times since yesterday -- I find it absolutely incredible. My new Morricone addiction...

Has anyone already detailed where the new release tracks are in the suites? As I have the Varese Club, it'd be nice to know exactly which tracks in what order make up each suite.

Michael

Suite 01
(7) Varna's Death [0'00-2'01]
(2) Main Title [2'01-4'24]
(19) End Credits [4'24-8'04]
(10) Fighting the Soldiers [8'05-11'38]
(6) Sonja and the Sword Master [11'39-13'39]
(1) Prologue [13'40-15'05]
(13) Sonja Teaches Tarn [15'05-16'40]

Suite 02
(12) Sorcery [0'00-0'45]
(4) Temple Raid [0'45-2'24]
(5) Touch It [2'25-3'28]
(16) A Fair Fight [3'29-5'18]
(14) Treasure in the Cavern [5'18-7'23]
(9) Sonja vs. Brytag [7'24-8'38]
(8) The Gate of Brytag [8'38-10'24]
(3) The Talisman [10'25-11'32]
(17) Entering the Castle [11'32-13'40]
(11) The Chamber of Lights [13'41-15'29]
(15) Kalidor and Sonja [15'29-17'12]
(18) Sonja Defeats the Queen [17'12-18'48]

Entering the Castle was already available in the Suites (therefore no additional music exists in Perseverance's release)

Not much music actually missing when you compare with the film, most anoying to me is the track "Fighting the Soldiers" that merges Varna's escape from the temple with the music for the beginning of Sonja fight with the Queen, omitting both the dramatic finale to Varna's escape and the crescendo before Sonja fight with the Queen.

In the film the track "The Gate of Brytag" is also used for a scene in which the Queen arrives at her castle, and it is a bit longer in that scene

There's also some additional 10 seconds of music in the film at the beginning of Temple Raid

Question - on the Varese CD there's one section where the brass suddenly flares up and then stops abruptly but the edit is really bad. Sounds like it was chopped off and they put reverb on it to try to cover it up. This was on the mastertape, I'm sure. It's not something that Varese did. But it was very obvious. Is it fixed on the Perseverance CD?

Mine is on the way! I only have an awful synth version on a Best of Arnold Schwarzenegger compilation but loved the music in the film!

What a week - Conan and this!!!!

From Grand Poobah Doug Fake on Intrada's site:

Though technically a reissue, current Perseverance CD re-sequences score, gives music better musical architecture albeit certain awkward edits & fades in original track assemblies remain in new version. Stronger musical experience partially compensates. Morricone balances melodic ideas with stately, action-oriented material, happily gives trumpets plenty to do. Rich minor-major chord progressions for "Varna's Death" a nice highlight. Chorus adds further appeal. Ennio Morricone composes, orchestrates, conducts Unione Musicisti Di Roma (Union Musicians of Rome).

My copy is waiting in the mail right now, have to get my lazy arse up, off this board, to get itsmile

Arrived today (along with the disappointing RAINMAN). Seven tracks in and really enjoying it; if I could afford to further explore one composer it would be Morricone but in this vein rather than his quirkier, more experimental scores. I've not heard this outside the film (and that was many years ago) and never managed to acquire the Varese disc.

Some of the music is the same as HUNDRA, but the sound on that disc is terrible.

Still waiting for my copy.

Some of the music is the same as HUNDRA

Do you mean it literally? Did EM reuse some music for the other score or do you mean it sounds very similar at times?

and (btw) what are the odds for a Hundra reissue?
