"Those Calloways" is scheduled to be broadcast on the BYUtv cable channel on March 17th and 18th. BYU broadcasts in HD, although I don't know if the film will be shown in true HD or upconverted. Going by release date, 'Calloways was Steiner's last film although it might have been composed prior to 'Guillotine. Steiner was around 76 when he scored the film, an age when most people would have settled into retirement.

It's a lovely score and I have it ordered. Ennio Morricone is still going strong at 84 years of age with several new scores and recently deceased Armando Trovajoli's last score was La Vita รจ Una Cosa Meravigliosa(2010) at age 92!

This is lovely.

Here's hoping that Disney will also allow William Alwyn's fabulous score from "Swiss Family Robinson" to be prised from the vaults.

Are there any similar styled Steiner scores that have already been released? I hear a lush beauty on these samples that I don't recognize in the limited Steiner in my collection. And do any of them sound anywhere near this good?

You might try our complete MARJORIE MORNINGSTAR

Nobody has mentioned THE HANGING TREE. I love the score and the opening title song sung by Marty Robbins.

I am very pleased that we finally get this score in the best possible way.
After almost fifty years...

...and composed by Jerry Livingston.

According to Ray Faiola two years ago 90 per cent of the score survives in mono mag sound.

Just listened to the first sample and it sounds sumptuous. There's a part of the theme that almost sounds Italian like it was an Italian Village song or something. Never saw the movie. But I got a distinct "Italian" feeling. Did Steiner score ROME ADVENTURE around this time?

Yeah, the tracks titled 'Accident,' 'Cam Recovers' and 'Closing Titles' have that orchestrated accordion feel embedded.

The films opened about two weeks apart, so there's no telling by that as to the order of composition. Perhaps they were worked on simultaneously, something that I'm sure Steiner must have done more than once in his career.

Great CD! Max is my favorite, and this score is just beautiful. Sure hope Intrada will do some Warner Bros. Steiner, especially The Hanging Tree. I've been told the last score Steiner composed and conducted was Calloways although Guillotine was issued last. I was just playing the Tribute Don Juan last night! Thanks Intrada! smile

I confirmed that my copy of Those Calloways is on its way. I can hear the sweet violin strains of Steiner's scores coming my way. Yippee.

Spinning it for the first time now, and it's gorgeous (as expected). The violins are practically dripping with sweetness, and as others have mentioned, the sound quality is excellent. I hope Intrada keeps mining those Disney vaults for the classic '50s/'60s scores. I'll buy 'em all!

I too am listening to it now. The whole thing is fantastic. I'd never even heard of the film before Intrada released the score, regardless I'm glad they took the time to introduce it to us.

On a side note - Thank you to joesoundtrack, whoever you are, for posting those awesome 1400x1400 cover scans on Album Art Exchange!

What a surprise! All I can say is that if the demand for Steiner is this great then it gives hope that some other titles might emerge e.g. the complete Rome Adventure, in Stereo, which is rumoured to exist!

I'm not a huge Max Steiner fan, but Those Calloways is amazing! One of the best surprises of this year for me. It seemed like this sold out a little too quickly, so it's great to see it back again. Check it out if you don't have it already!

Chris
