Say what you will about Seasons 8-9 - I liked them, and consider them superior to S1 and parts of S2 before the show really found its groove - but I think Mark Snow's music continued to get better and better as it went, peaking towards the end of the series. So I'm happy with any music from the whole run - and this will be a must-buy smile

Oh and I agree that seasons 8 and 9 are awful, storytelling-wise, but Mark Snow sure brought his A-game as far as the music is concerned. I can't wait for the set.

Chris

Season 8 is very underrated, imo. A lot of the standalones aren't all that great, but its the one season of the show, ironically enough, where the Mytharc is really focused and on fire, with amazing eps like Within, Without and This Is Not Happening. It really feels like Carter and co. are giving it their all for one last go... and then Season 9 comes along and spoils it. That's the one season that truly does feel just completely exhausted and the Mytharc eps are truly abysmal.

Robert Patrick's great performance as Doggett is the one aspect of the show that keeps it watchable through season 8. And yes, there are a few gems buried throughout that season. It's Annabelle Gish's performance as Reyes that I really find grating.

Chris

I'm on board for both of these releases. For those who haven't seen Flashpoint yet, it adapts the recent pre-New52 DC Universe crossover. It is pretty graphic at times, is very well done and is not for young kids. The music is well done as well.

Randall Larson wrote some great new liner notes for our release, which include the participation of producers Glen Morgan, James Wong and Frank Spotnitz, along with an introduction by series creator Chris Carter.

As a fan of the show, I couldn't be happier with this release.

Can't wait until I can order this one!! Most of my selections made the cut. It's so awesome to see this being released. I absolutely loved everything about the X-Files the cinematography, casting and the music. I do agree the show lost its edge in later seasons, but it was/still is an exceptional sci-fi show that today's industry can't out do.

There's only part that I truly wished the network would have changed. That is shooting the show in widescreen from the onset, which would've allowed for a better hi-def presentation for the first 4 seasons, if we get a blu-ray release. I watched an interview on youtube and I think it was Frank Spotnitz that stated Chris & Co. wanted to shoot it that way, but they were shot down by the network. It wasn't until ER or Chicago Hope started shooting in widescreen until Fox decided to change their mind. Arrrgh, network execs!!!

MV, Mark Snow and the crew ... thank you for your awesome work! big grin

The lack of comedic episodes, the preponderance of mythology episodes and the fact that most of the discs are taken up with seasons 1 through 5 is very welcome and will, I expect, result in a more cohesively moody listening experience. Don't get me wrong, the first set was great, but there was a clear line of demarcation between the more moody, minimalistic scoring of the early seasons (as represented on Discs 1 and 2) and the more melodic, sometimes downright fanciful music of seasons 6-9 (Discs 3 and 4).

A great (non)surprise!! When Vol 1 was out, I enjoyed it in Kuwait, and now I can enjoy Vol 2 in Afghanistan!

So MV...

Love volume 1 (playing it now in fact) and will be getting vol 2 as soon as possible next week.
With so much music still unreleased is there a possibility of a vol 3 at some point down the line or do you now consider the X-Files closed?

A vol 3 is most likely unless sales of Volume 2 are terrible.

I'm sure they will be almost as good as with the first box. If not a little faster wink

Count me in and I'm really hoping I'll get an autographed one too.

There is indeed a lot more to release for volume 3 so everyone who loves this show and it's music buy this great set!

MV,

Will gladly buy any X-Files stuff you put out. That goes without saying.

Am also hoping (though these are long shots) for a Millennium volume 2 and perhaps a disc of Snow's music to Nowhere Man. Is this in the cards?

Hi MV, thanks so much for these fantastic X-Files releases (I have played my Vol 1 box at least fifty times or more in the last two years). Are there any plans whatsoever to do a companion release of the complete Fight the Future score? (One of the most underrated sci-fi scores of all time, imho) smile

I'm unsure about Vol 2, I quite like Vol 1 (or at least a good chunk of it) but not sure if I could take more of the same.

Is that why we have no Vol 2 of Star Trek: TNG? Were sales terrible on Vol 1?

Still so much great music from TNG unreleased.
