I enjoyed the film but not the score or song. However I think there should still be a cd because I support cd releases, I hate when they're only on lp and digital.
Which song? The end credits one by the Weeknd? Or the one sung by Zoe Saldana in the film? (I really like that latter melody, personally.)
I'm really surprised if you didn't like a glorious orchestral cue like this one, henry...
And there are lots of well done Horner references woven throughout the score too, IMO.
Yavar
Hi Yavar! I didn't like the end credits song, but I did like the score from the scene you posted, but besides that I didn't find the score very memorable. The Horner references were, mostly, the only parts of the score I liked.
The biggest film in (most) years...and still no soundtrack release on CD. I know CD sales are down, but I'm pretty sure this title would have made money for the company/studio, especially if released when the film hit cinemas (in either a 1 or 2 CD edition). As it stands, it's bootleggers on eBay that are making off with the dosh for CD-R editions. It's just so bizarre!!
I would think one of the main reasons CD sales are down are that labels are not releasing CDs. You can't sell what you don't produce. Now that this has been a sustained effort to not produce the product, people are getting their music through other means out of necessity. And contrary to popular opinion vinyl is not one of the mean as the majority of vinyl buyers do not even own a turntable.
I go to a lot of concerts and make a point to try and buy stuff from the band as so little of the ticket price makes it to the artists. Every show there is a least one person near me in line complaining that the band isn't selling CDs.

Tell me, why exactly would they do that? They were making a mint off CD sales. Why would they choose to stop?
Nobody I know outside of this board – absolutely nobody, of any age – misses CDs. Not one. (Caveat: I don't know everybody in the world. I only know the people I know.) Honestly, I have no affection for CDs anymore, except that they make a lot of the specialty releases I love possible.

I have some friends who still collect and listen to CDs. A couple of weeks ago I went into a media store and there were at least 3-4 other people beside me browsing the CD collection Anyway, I would have bought the CD for sure were it released but I never pay for a digital file so they definitely missed my money again with this (non)release.
Disney have just announced that they are releasing the CD and LP for the new Indiana Jones film. So clearly Disney still want to produce CDs. I suspect it’s more to do with the name of the composer rather than the franchise which is a bit of a shame. Rightly so John Williams absolutely deserves a CD released but on the basis of avatar alone Simon Franglen should definitely have that honour bestowed upon him for was an exceptional score.

No cassette tape mix for nostalgia sakes?
It makes no sense. I mean, the studios don’t make the CDs…they never did, they just license them to someone who sees it as a worthwhile endeavor. Especially now as a niche niche thing, some label would love to print a CD. The Avatar Way of the Water vinyl I got was cheapo. They clearly don’t care about any thing physical. I assume they’ll be doing BluRay and 4K at some point, or is that done too?
My two boys bought me the LP for Father’s Day. Wonderfully packaged it’s great to actually read album credits for this score. It’s a great 45 min album.
Makes me want a 2CD release of the expanded digital release even more!
But very grateful to now own some of the brilliant music from Avatar 2 in a physical form!
Talking to Simon Franglen at the MOSMA festival this morning I told him that I was disappointed that there was no CD. He smiled and said: There will be one.

That would be awesome! I hope he has reliable sources.

That is fantastic news!!! Now will it be a cd of the 70 minute release or a two disc set of the expanded release?
I've been listening to my copy this past week and some of it is really lovely, in the spirit of Horner, obviously. Into The Water is just wonderful. Really, really good stuff. I would deffo purchase a copy officially on CD, should some label deign (or be allowed) to release it. Hopefully it's the 100 minute edition over 2 CDs.
