I just listened and - maybe my expectations were way too high after reading some of the above posts - but I wasn't blown away. It's richer, I supppse, but I was hoping some of that pinched quality would be gone, but it isn't. It's largely the same sound, to me, just cleaner and smoother. But still not as "open" as I thought it might be. Am I missing something?
No you're not. WOK's always going to sound lousy to some degree because of the conditions it was recorded under.

Wasn't WOK one of the first "Digital" soundtrack albums? I remember it sounded cleaner and sharper than other soundtracks of that era. Wouldn't that translate to a better sounding CD?
Anyone else like me edits out all the jump scares and slasher music in the soundtrack, along with fading out the end of "Kirk"s Explosive Reply" withot that blaring music at the end? I did that on the FSM release and plan to do it again. It's just ear piercing and frankly I'm afraid those bits are going to blow out my speakers! Some of the tracks I plan to edit are "The Eels of Ceti Alpha V-Kirks In Space Shuttle", "Kirk's Explosive Reply" and "Inside Regular One". I might edit the film version of "Battle in The Mutara Nebula" too. BTW shouldn't "Kirk in Space Shuttle" be called "Kirk in Space Pod"?

My "whittled" copy leaves out three tracks...
"Khan's Pets"....it's a little too low key and quiet when I listen on my stereo at work
BTW shouldn't "Kirk in Space Shuttle" be called "Kirk in Space Pod"?
"Captain Spock, Captain Spock, space shuttle leaving in fifteen minutes."
You know I never caught onto that mistake before?! It is a "Space Pod". Space Shuttle were the spacecraft NASA flew.
In The Motion Picture it's a "travel pod." Maybe it's a regional thing, like "soda" and "pop."
Good heavens. Although it's that kind of in universe specificity that further convinces me that John Williams would never have named a track "Binary Sunset" if a sandcrawler piloted by Little People ran over him.
Listening to Neil on Inglorious Treksperts reminds me that I need to A/B the two versions of Kirk Takes Command.
Funny thing is that on the FSM disc I made an edit that started when Kirk walks on to the bridge. (I called it "So Much for the Little Training Cruise".) With the LLL version's greater clarity I can hear the last note of Spock's theme continuing into that piece and now I can't bring myself to do it.

Duh on my part. Yes, travel pod. Guess I was thinking of Lost In Space! Still the line quoted above is kinda strange. Shouldn't they have said, "Shuttlecraft leaving in fifteen minutes."? Then again why are they leaving by shuttlecraft, couldn't they all just beam aboard? Guess they needed to pad the runtime with some pre-existing special effects. Anyway the cue should've been called "Kirk in Travel Pod".
The terminology in Trek II is weird. "Hyperchannel" instead of "subspace." They repeatedly say "spacedock" when the footage is clearly drydock. "Mr. Scott on discrete" is also peculiar.
I’m just surprised that in all these years no one has revealed how and why did Horner cameo in the film, and of all movies he scored, why cameo in this one?
