I was never really a GODZILLA fan as a kid, cos it was never shown on any telly's where I came from. I think I recall a cartoon, but I'm not 100% sure.
Godzilla and Godzookie! Yes, there was indeed a cartoon.
"Up from the depths 30 stories high Breathing fire His head in the sky! Godzilla! Godzilla! Godzilla! .....and Godzooooookieeeeee!"

Good lord that's cheesier than I remember it.... And I recall being so hyped about that show as a kid. And I loved it too despite the cheese factor.
That cartoon was an abomination, as was Godzooky as a character. And people to this day often refer to Minya as Godzooky. SHUDDER.
"Godzilla" barely looks like Godzilla. And Ifukube's glorious sound effect for Godzilla's roar was replaced with something that sounds almost exactly like Ted Cassidy actually yelling the word "ROAR."
All that said, I've really got no gripe with CDRs. I've never had one fail and they sound the same to me. I've got a slightly higher confidence level in pressed CDs but no experience that CDRs are inferior.

Which is, of course, what it was.
I think its partially the Japanese fault. Toho always mandated the American Godzilla's look very different from the Japanese counterpart.
Mainly, this would be like Godzilla vs. Gigan (one of my least favorite Godzilla movies), and that is a vastly dissapointing movie. The score by McCreary is mostly buried under a lot of sound effects, but when strikes, strikes and is so fricking epic.
Is a shame the movie is not as good as the score.
I still prefer G14, Shin, Kong and the PR movies over this. And more few Godzilla movies vastly superior.
That's a pretty underwhelming argument to defend a movie.
Pacific Rim has a fun attidude (aside for certain characters) and a pretty good direction by Del Toro, Dougherty can make a good monster-feature like Krampus, but his love for this characters (and easter eggs, one in particular is a massive mistake) dosen't make a good movie, but there is a few moments where a you could tell there is a good material for that, but the characters are fricking bad and incoherent, specially Vera Farmiga's character
G14 has a terrific direction by Edwards and a fine script (say what you want of the screentime of Godzilla or Bryan Cranston'death too soon, but the characters in that movie are plenty more belivable than KOTM) and Shin Godzilla is more interesting creating something different for the character, hell, even i have more fun with Final Wars (i'm not big fan of that movie) or Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla than this movie.
It is just pretty meh movie.
PS: My vision is this: a fan of something, dosen't mean everything is a good thing.
I loved that Godzilla cartoon as a kid, one of my favourites. It was shown on a kids TV show every Saturday morning in the UK and I loved that theme song and the red button! I know nothing about Godzilla movies, but I did see that Shin film on TV recently and it was hilariously bad, with the sock puppet and all

And for the record: why should I "defend" the movie? If you don't like it - fine, that doesn't bother me. I happen to like it, which is fine as well. I have better things to do with my time than to "defend" a movie I like: I rather go see it for the 5th time - that's my time well spent

I thought that was a great film, but I lack your childhood investment in the Saturday morning cartoons...
