Now what's happening with this soundtack CD release?
My Mondo 2 CD set has just been cancelled today with straight money back from Music Box where I ordered it 2 months ago.
Is this Mondo 2 CD set just delayed or eventually cancelled? What is the issue with this release?
I hope the new soundtrack business model won't become "Digital + LP releases but no more CD release"....!
This would be catastrophic from my collector point of view.
It's also unavailable on Amazon with the "we don't know when this item will be back in stock" notice. Maybe the first pressing sold out, or maybe it was an unadvertised limited edition. The delays, dropping score tracks from the announced tracklisting to include songs, now unavailable ... maybe Mondo needs to stick with vinyl.

I received mine from Chris' Soundtrack Corner (free shipping over 50 Euros until 31 December!) last month. As far as I can see this is still available directly from Mondo, at least they still write "expedited to ship in 3-5 business days". Apart from Soundtrack Corner I couldn't find any European sites that would sell it.
I suspect that this is because the Mondo release was contractually limited and that we will hopefully get another release in 2023 as a reaction to it being very successful and in demand. I'm sure Amazon is loathe to miss out on an opportunity to make more money.
Perhaps it will be tied into the physical release of the individual episode scores. Crikey, could even be one of those big SDE sets containing EVERYTHING.

That's what I'm hoping for, eventually, some sort of MEGA release of all the music from the episodes...with lots of liner notes. I don't really care about physical releases anymore unless there is a very compelling reason to get them, rather than digital copies...and something like that would justify the expense (for me).

Many thanks for the tip re: Soundtrack Corner. I've just placed an order: hope he's got stock. It's beyond ridiculous that this CD is so hard to get hold of (I'm in the UK) but I suppose we should just be grateful there's a physical release at all...
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER---Ciaran Hinds (GAME OF THRONES), Rory Kinnear (SKYFALL) and Tanya Moodie (STAR WARS: EPISODE IX-THE RISE OF SKYWALKER) have joined the Season 2 cast in undisclosed roles.
This 2CD set just gets better and better with each subsequent play through. The level of writing and quality of themes is absolutely stunning, taking me back to the days when film music stirred my emotions and meant something to the characters and action taking place. If Series 2 can maintain this level of musical excellence, I just cannot wait.
With each passing play, this score astounds me more and more, especially in this day and age. Such a wonderful throwback to how scores were written and developed only a few decades ago. The quality of his themes and motifs is top-notch.
I hope the planned 'Complete Episode Score' CD Editions, that were rumoured a while back, are still in the developing area. I would snap them up in a heartbeat.
Interesting to note, when this thread was first started back in 2018, JWB (kinda) guessed right - the Titles Theme only ended up being written by Howard Shore - and PollyAnna called it correct with Bear McC. All within the first 10 posts!!
There's been a lot of amazing film music in between (John Powell! Panu Aaltio! And honestly some fantastic work by John Williams...) but honestly, this is probably my favorite film music since Howard Shore's scores for the original LotR trilogy. I might like it even better in some ways...
Yes indeed Yavar. There has been other very good music in-between times, no doubt. But this is a high-water mark for modern day action/fantasy/adventure scoring in anyone's book. The fact it gets better and better with more ideas and details revealed, with each subsequent listen, is a rare thing these days and one I embrace with genuine musical thirst.
I'm STILL waiting for an affordable physical copy here in the UK. Amazon dropped the ball on this one with their emphasis on streaming and downloads. It's almost like they don't want my money.
Unless they come good with some uber-boxset, but I won't be holding my breath.
It is indeed bizarre that whatever deal Amazon did with Mondo has pretty much deprived many non-USA buyers of the chance to hear this stupendous music from their biggest event series. I do hope they plan things better for the second series of music score releases, should they even deign to release them on CD.

Agreed! This might be the best thematic writing of the 21st century so far. Prior to the series I was bummed out that McCreary contractually couldn't use any of Howard Shores themes from LOTR. Now (after listening to all eight scores many times since last fall) I find myself wishing that some of McCreary's themes could be used in LOTR! I would NOT have taken that bet last year! More than the series itself, I'm looking forward to hearing what he does in season 2.
