Adding on, this is a perfect release of a truly fantastic score. It's my most replayed recent album in quite awhile.
No depressing minor mode drudgery. No endless boring slashing whole tone strings tutti. No taking itself SO seriously, like everything now does. Superb brass writing that calls back to 80s fantasy scoring. A sense of fun that is absolutely gone from scoring now. Sense of "its fantasy, hage some fun & enjoy!".
There is so much heart, energy and love in this score, I'm amazed "more of us" didn't latch onto it.
The passion Powell brought to this project is very evident. Five stars, I hope the core community here supports this album.
I'm definitely an old timer Star Wars fan and I agree. I'd love to see him get another assignment in that universe.
Thank you EdG for your post.
This score really got to me, namely the nostalgia in outdated writing Powell did here, and I hoped my peers felt the same, experienced how special this score is.
It's in my current cart with Intrada, waiting for some mates to join it and fill out the order for completion. I already love the single disc edition and I'm really look forward to the extra goodies within this set. The Love Theme he wrote is such a brilliant call-back to the Golden Age of film scoring and I think the first time Han sees the Falcon is one of THE most goose-bump inducing renditions of a STAR WARS theme I've ever heard. Love the film too. Alongside THE FORCE AWAKENS, easily the best of the Disney STAR WARS efforts.
Is this the first Intrada release to feature a slipcase?
Can’t really answer the question, but I find it strange how labels all of a sudden make such a random decision. Why this release? Same with Quartet Records releasing TRE FRATELLI and LO SCOPONE SCIENTIFICO all of sudden as digipacks… why? I’m autistic, and I truly hate those inconsistencies in my collection. However, I still find them beautiful releases, and am very happy these titles are being released on cd to begin with. That’s the most important.
