A gag but also one of several indications that Marty didn't simply change the future but is actually at the end of Part 1 living in an alternate reality of the original 1985.
i just noticed something i missed it all these years
i discovered it from the Intrada track titles Lone Pine Mall Twin Pines mall
what did i miss? did marty destroy a tree when he initally went back in time?
Funny !! I just realised the same thing because the Intrada cues. I had to take a look at the film on DVD and check this out !!! Really funny joke !!! Cudos to Bob Zemeckis and Bob Gale.
yeah, it is a very subtle joke so subtle we both missed it shame on us!
There's a similar gag in BTTF III, when Marty (who adopts the name Clint Eastwood back in 1885) drives the train to his apparent demise, then returns to 1985 and you see that the ravine the train plunged into a century earlier has been re-named "Eastwood Ravine".

now you know why i never bothered with the sequels....
"We get a lot of letters asking about the remaining quantities of BACK TO THE FUTURE.
We originally negotiated a special arrangement with the union to allow 10,000 pressings so we could get copies into as many hands as possible. Happily, the union has now become extremely helpful in making arrangements like this, enabling releases of all manner of previously unobtainable soundtracks. Regarding BACK TO THE FUTURE, I'm happy to say we've sold just under 6000 copies to date."

That's maybe the most generous story I've ever heard about the music industry. Good show.

BLACK SUNDAY is also 10,000. Definitely a trend I'd say...

The real answer: they have come to realize that filmmusic sells well - that means MONEY MONEY MONEY (It's for funny)
The only drawback is that my liner note booklet skips pages 11-14, oddly enough, they seem to have not been included in printing - anyone else have this problem?
It's funny - but my booklet has those pages twice. And I'm not joking here, I took off these pages since they are in the middle of the booklet. At first I thought it was a pressing error and looked it up here, am I the only one?
Looking to compile an All Back to the Future mix incorporating all the track from disc 1 of the Intrada release and the songs that appeared in the film from the original BTTF soundtrack. Can anyone verify this track list - checking for chronology as the music appears in the film:
