Love this score! Bought it on a lark a few months ago because I had a sneaking suspicion it was approaching the end of the run. Tango Urilla--so is that your favorite track on your favorite score?? The performance on that track alone is worth the price of the score and there is SO MUCH MORE to this score that I am still discovering. We lost a great one with Basil Poledouris.

I just wanted folks to know that Adam came to my rescue after I'd posted that I'd missed purchasing a copy of this wonderful score. He had an extra copy and graciously offered it to me for an extremely reasonable price, not profiting on his end. There's a story behind that extra copy but I'll let him share it if he'd like. At any rate, I've finally given it a listen and Wow! does it really shine apart from the movie. What a magnificent score from Poledouris, probably second only to Conan the Barbarian. Again, thanks Adam for looking out for me!

Finally getting around to acquiring this release (second-hand copy). I hope it is not one of the defective ones. Quick question...if it is defective, can I still get a replacement disc from Varese? Or way too late?

I hope that if Varese doesn't still retain the rights, it's re-issued without brickwalling. If they do have it in perpetuity, I hope when they do it again, it's fixed.

They're ALL Defective! (Brick Walled To Death!!) Very strange. Here's the wav form for the track War! on the Deluxe Edition. Zero sign of brickwalling.

Apologies for my BRICKWALL shout above. I'm obviously mis-remembering about a previous Varese/Poledouris(?) release. This one sounds pretty damn fine. Such a muscular score. Classis Poledouris. What a unique voice he had.

It is a legitimate complaint but I don't see it applying to this particular release. I hear it clearly. The mastering on the Club release is absolute garbage compared to the original album. Why they had to tinker with it when the original mix as the composer wanted it had dynamic range and spacing is beyond anyone's guess. Missed chance, gave my copy away. They only respect his wishes when it comes to Lonesome Dove. Everything else in his catalog is "Wooooo, party at Basil's, crank that shit!"

STARSHIP TROOPERS DE at least didn't make my ears bleed like HOME MOVIES or PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED.

Does some of this Brickwalling/Loudness War "controversy" on this album stem from the fact that Sony/Columbia put the music-only stem as an alternate audio track on their deluxe DVD edition? That track, nicely done as it was, kept the overall levels from the final mix, as far as I could tell, and I had to turn the amp up and down to get a satisfying listening level for the standout tracks. I think some fans of this score got the impression that it was a much more dynamic recording than it actually was due to the level changes. I like the kind of rougher, in-your-face mix on the Varese CD Club edition.
