Superman music trivia: when is the SECOND time in the film the love theme is heard?

I'll play ... from memory: since the first is in the Main Title, the second would be during the mugger scene, right when Lois sees Clark on the ground.

When Supe is trying to rescue Lois from her car.

Not even close.

The main title doesn't count as being " in the film"

He, he. Yes, always some wacky translations. But I thought this one was surprisingly coherent and neglible, at least. I think Google Translate has improved somewhat over the years.

Yes, I agree - most of it was actually quite intelligible (which I guess is what you really meant to say by "neglible" - did you use Google Translate? wink )

Oops. Typed a bit too quickly there. I blame Google Translate!

In Maurizio Caschetto’s February podcast…

https://thelegacyofjohnwilliams.com/2019/02/25/mike-matessino-superman-part-2/

…the only thing that his guest, Mike Matassino, said about the progress of a “film with live orchestra” concert for SUPERMAN-THE MOVIE was this:

“…that is under discussion and those talks are continuing.”

We’re now half-way through the film’s 40th anniversary. Is this concert going to happen?

Just listened this new 40th release.
As always occour in "new multitrack mixes", lots of music instruments that used to be in the background now are too high in volume, so the perfect and balanced listening experience of the original stereo tracks is completely gone on this "40th edition".
Much better to return back to the Holy Blue Box and its 100% "film feeling perfect match".
Filmscore totally wins for me!

Except that the multi-track had the 6-track on it and that is basically what was used. Overlays, chorus and synth were separate.

If one never wants anything to be redone from original master elements, then one need not be concerned about anything lost in the Universal Studios fire.

Or you could have done a mixing faithful to the original, instead of a "bodybuilded" mixing and mastering where everything is louder than ever.

We can hear lots of details, for sure, but not music anymore.

All the depth, realism and nuance of Eric Tomlinson original recording and mixing are gone.

There's even a wider dynamic range on the original CD, and probably on the original LP, which is both incomprehensible and unfortunately a usual habit with modern "remasterings".

I am agreed with that, I prefer the magic mood of the original japan cd and lp than the new mix. And the dynamic range is far better on the old cd (listen "Leaving Home" for exemple)...

Can’t quite believe I am reading these negative comments about this outstanding new release.
This is by far the best version of this outstanding score.

No good deed goes unpunished.

I’ve critically listened to this new mix and I have all of the previous releases and this new one is the best by far. Dynamic range, instrument separation and detail, balance all improved. And this score is important to me.

From Chris Malone excellent article :

http://www.malonedigital.com/superman.htm#.XQlbTI_grIU

Comparing the various digital editions of the "Theme from Superman" from the first film recorded in 1978. RMS value, measured in decibels, describes the relative loudness of a track. It is an average of the sample values within a given section of music. A lower value indicates a lower overall dynamic range. The waveforms below show each track as extracted from their respective CDs. RMS calculations were performed after adjusting the audio content to 0 dB FS. The original Warner Bros CD release from 1989 boasts an overall dynamic range of around 20 dB. The Rhino 2CD release from 2000 is restricted to approximately 14 dB of overall dynamic range. The FSM Blue Box is a little more relaxed than the Rhino offering 15 dB of overall dynamic range.

From the Dynamic Range database (La-La Land edition) :

http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/159828

DR Peak RMS Duration Track
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DR11 -0.04 dB -13.58 dB 4:29 01-Theme From Superman (Main Title) [Remastered 1978 Original Soundtrack]

So the new La-La Land is the worse.

No need to check the values, though, it's clearly audible.

Leaving Home has a very wide dynamic range on the original CD release, indeed.

The cue starts very softly, the music seems to come from an outer world, then it grows until a first climax, followed by the americana theme etc.

A cue wonderfully composed, conducted and recorded.

Unfortunately, all the "magic" as you say is gone with the new mixing and mastering which drastically reduce the dynamics : the cue starts much louder , the climax is no more a climax, the americana theme has not the same impact anymore, and is also louder etc.
