Does anyone know if the Dr. No music and effects track is the original mono mix. There seems to be music missing from the current mono mix on the blu ray that is on the criterion laserdisc?

Are you saying there is music in the Music & Effects track on the Criterion laserdisc not heard in the English composite mix? Or that there is a difference between the Blu-ray English mono and the laserdisc English mono?

Their is extra music that is dialed out from the current mono mix that is on the criterion laserdisc

In one particular scene, or more than one? What scene or scenes are we talking about? Specific details would be helpful.

I seem to remember that Thunderball has also has some very different sound mixes and some score changes throughout the years.

Watched View to a Kill recently.

Fair amount of music missing from the album. Some great cues including the equestrian music, variations of the love theme and lots of action and suspense cues. I think it's the second best Barry Bond score of the 80s. Daylights is my favourite of his 80s Bond.

In terms of missing music A View to a Kill has a lot of great tracks missing. As the sound is also poor on the released albums it is one among those I want expanded and remastered the most (and Licence To Kill).

Dan totally agree A View To A Kill does need an expanded score from LLL Records as there are so many great cues missing.

Notes:
As per many of the OSTs, quite a few of the musical ’scene setters’ are missing, such as Bond’s arrival in Paris and the beautiful cue when Bond arrives at the Chateau with Tibbett. There’s a cue which is very reminiscent of the strings in the main theme of OHMSS as the helicopter explodes in the pre-title sequence, but it is barely audible because of the SFX. Other notable missing cues include the saxophone-driven and french horn/strings version of AVTAK when Bond seduces May Day and Stacey in the shower respectively, the fight at Stacey’s house (which is a variation on the ‘Snow Job’ main action theme but with the inclusion of the James Bond theme) and variations on the ‘Project Main Strike’ theme.

I'm guessing a lot of those short cues would have to be combined. Even though they are short, the music is of high quality.

the ficht at staceys house does not include the james bond theme i would say - it includes a nod to thunderball's chateau FIGHT (which is the real title)

and that thunderball cue may have contained som bond themes element - but here it is clealy a nod to the thunderball cue

Some cues are too short, they would have to be combined to make a better listening experience.

I agree cues would have to be combined to make a better listening experience & I sure LLL Records would do a fantastic job as always

I really hope we see more expanded scores this year from LLL records because if they release via anniversary dates they might follow the below schedule, if not it would be great if they just released all of the Bond scores like they did in 2003 but obviously fully expanded & in chronological score order with all the missing music cues & Original album with extras like Live & Let Die & Octopussy this year.

Top of my list are all of the John Barry Bond scores but most wanted expansions are Moonraker , Thunderball & OHMSS

2024:
1. Goldfinger (60th)
2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (55th)
3. The Man With The Golden Gun (50th)
4. Moonraker (45th)
5. License To Kill (35th)
2025:
1. Thunderball (60th)
2. A View To A Kill (40th)
3. GoldenEye (30th)
4. Spectre (10th)
2026:
1. Diamonds Are Forever (55th)
2. For Your Eyes Only (45th)
3. Casino Royale (20th)
4. No Time To Die (5th)
2027:
1. Dr. No (65th)
2. You Only Live Twice (60th)
3. The Spy Who Loved Me (50th)
4. The Living Daylights (40th)
5. Skyfall (15th)
2028:
1. From Russia With Love (65th)
2. Quantum of Solace (20th)

I wonder if our fortunate luck of having two released at the same time was a result of delays with No Time To Die and then the sale of MGM to Amazon. These titles are likely planned years in advance.

I remember Neil, after the release of Tomorrow Never Dies last year, posting in February that there were "no current plans" to work on another expanded Bond soundtrack. Evidently that changed and they managed to assemble the two releases quite quickly.

I do feel sorry for him and MV though. With every release, the floodgates are opened and people bombard them with questions about the next expanded soundtrack. I hope that they're not put off by the over-zealous enthusiasm frown

I hope such enthusiasm is par of the course with owning a business. When you have a finite amount of a product that will sell out, someone who won't buy it for x reasons will be replaced by someone who will. Very happy they are still putting effort and time into music releases from this franchise.

Yes, no plans right now for more expanded releases, but I expect MGM to email Neil in the not too distant future:

"Fancy doing Goldfinger and Man With The Golden Gun?"

This thread is good for the Bond fans who want to talk about future releases. big grin

TSWLM has bits and pieces of music not used in the film so I wouldn't be surprised if there is more than 40 minutes. The performances in the film (and on album) of the Bee Gees influenced cues differ from what Hamlisch originally wrote. It's not clear if these were recorded and revised or revised prior to the recording. There are no written revisions for these cues so it leads me to believe changes were made on the stage. Parts of the score appear to have been created editorially. The Ski Chase looks like music written and unused for later scenes in the film. Hamlisch wrote several variations of the Bond theme that went unused. They aren't particularly interesting.

Some of the cues are longer than what was used in the film. 10M1 Bond on Globe goes on for a few more measures. 7M3 Car Chase Part 1, 7M4 Car Chase Part 2, 7M5 Car Chase Conclusion, and 8M2 Underwater Chase Sequence are longer as written. 5M2 The "We All Make Mistakes" March, the broken down van cue, has more musc than was used and it doesn't appear that Hamlisch is the composer of this cue.

Many of the synth parts aren't written in the score at all or are totally different in the film recording. Some were improvised later by the keyboard player so there may be recordings with different instrumentation. There are lots of parts scribbled out or marked with pen in the hand of Richard Hazard, the orchestrator. It's kind of a messy score on paper. There are no timings or tempi written. It looks like Hamlisch recorded them wild.

I've just stumbled across this really interesting info on TSWLM, thanks @neumation. I've never seen any slate numbers or official cue titles before, other than what's listed in Jon Burlingame's book. I'm trying to pull together a complete cue list for the film - do you have any other info you can share with us please? This is what I have so far:
