I want TWO volumes of the Six Million Dollar Man music. One will not be enough. --jthree
It would have to be four discs per set, but even then that wouldn't be enough.

Who knows. MV One and only question haunts me MV: Why no SMDM release yet? Just why? What's the issue preventing any release of it? It has been requested a million times around, here and there, over the last decades so there is an obvious fanbase interest in its release....so a break-even project I guess. I just can't imagine there were no attempt to license this music so far. So what is the problem? Rights clearance issue or just reported lost tapes? Thanks. What the problem is? The problem is Universal! And mostly Universal! That's why there are so less score-CDs with music from Universal shows. You need some guys with influence, like the composer for example and it will work ("Battlestar Galactica", "Buck Rogers" and "Knight Rider" all done because Phillips himself wanted them to get released). And you have the problem of researching where or if some tapes are stored. It is too expensive for the labels. Maybe we will never see another release of Universal's TV-music, because it could be, that all tapes had been burned in Universal`s 2008 fire.

In fairness to Universal, I would assume it's more complicated than simply demonizing them. I know Thierry Schreurs was using hyperbole when he suggests "a million" requests (amusingly, he comes back down to earth by concluding that he guesses it would be "a break-even project," even though no label stays in business by breaking even). But realistically, have there been more than a dozen unique requests here? Even if there have been three times that (which would be a lot!), we have to accept that posts on FSM are a very misleading metric for ultimate sales. I don't think we have to look any further than the failure of Intrada's '80s "Twilight Zone" set to prove that. Labels have to look past the enthusiasm shown by people like us (recall that LLL licensed the "Star Trek" TOS box for 6,000 copies, but ultimately pressed only 4,000). Of course, there are myriad factors at play, including (yes) studio cooperation, availability and organization of materials, and on and on. Obviously, "12 O'Clock High" was just released with minimal clamoring around here. Some things fall into place easier than others, sometimes for reasons we are not privy to. I still consider it a minor miracle that any of this stuff comes out. Don't assume anything is inevitable. I've always found it odd when people here ask what the delay is on a project like "Six Million Dollar Man." What delay? Nobody said it was coming at all!

Anxious to know what LLL's January titles are, especially since one was supposed to be included in the Black Friday batch. Unfortunately, I'll probably have to wait until January 1st. Any clues to tide me over?

There was one comment from MV years ago, speaking of the new Universal line, where he listed a few short titles he wanted to do from Universal. The series was in the list. There is that comment, if that helps. Anything else is just people perpetrating the myth something else was said and a release is impending -- I have no idea where that started.

Yes, and thanks for mentioning that one true bit of info. As you say, it's very easy to see what happens here. People scan posts quickly, somebody says that MV once said something about score XYZ, somebody else says maybe that's coming for Black Friday, somebody else asks "I wonder if the reports of XYZ coming on Black Friday are true?" and suddenly there are "rumors swirling" which were born of virtually no actual information. And then when XYZ doesn't come out for several years, people are frustrated by the delay, which is actually not a delay because nothing was coming.

Reminds me of that episode of "The Simpsons" where people pass along something that was said, until the last guys says: "Purple monkey dishwasher."
