Love this site. Still, the off-center Dracula will forever drive me crazy.

God help me I have rational thoughts on this:

1) His being in the center would overcrowd the image as a whole.

2) It makes more sense dramatically for him to appear as though he's nearing her neck rather than her cheek.

3) Similarly, he's an off-center character so it makes sense that he'd be off-center in the image. He doesn't come at you head on; he creeps up. Centering him is the same as foregrounding him and that doesn't make sense for the character.

Doesn't mean you have to like it but goddammit you have to respect it.

I missed this when you posted it, but I would have disagreed with you then, too. It just looks wrong!

Maybe being the focus would make it unreasonable that a monster whose mortal (or immortal) weakness is milk would not be found out. You're talking about Count Chocula, right?

same! have been listening to it nightly for the past week because for a horror score it's a pretty soothing listen. but always–ALWAYS as i'm just falling asleep "Mina Impaled" explodes on the headphones and i'm rattled awake.

The Baton: A John Williams Musical Journey

Episode 51 - Dracula
November 27, 2019

https://thebatonpodcast.podbean.com/e/episode-51-dracula/
John Williams’ final foray into the horror genre was the 1979 version of Dracula, with Frank Langella reprising his Broadway role to great effect. The movie goes for romantic overtones instead of outright horror and gore, though there is some of that there. And John Williams was willing to go along for the ride with lush strings and woodwinds from the London Symphony Orchestra taking center stage. Host Jeff Commings talks about this final collaboration between Williams and film producer Walter Mirisch, including the lush main theme that served mainly as a love theme..

I'm looking forward to Shout! Factory's new Blu-ray of the movie tonight.

From the FSM report, it seems image quality should be boffo.

I think I'll go with the original color.

This makes me sad. It's not even available digitally, just the too-short album (and I don't usually say that, but really true in this case.)

Ugh! Why to these releases instantly go to double the price the day they sell out? Even a reputable dealer like MovieMusic already lists it for 20 dollars more (although its out of stock). Is there an unwritten rule on this instant price hike? It would have been nice for Varese to do a low quantity alert. I have been wanting this CD set, and would have purchased it sooner had I known it was in the danger zone. frown

Probably because unlike most Varese Deluxe Editions from the past decade, they don't have perpetuity rights to the title. They had to sub-license the album from UMG and the additional music from Universal Pictures, just like Intrada or LLL would have had to do. That makes digital releases very complicated if not impossible.

Too bad "budget labels" don't exist for this (admittedly "boutique") market, like RCA-Camden back in the day....

I should point out that I'm not sad for myself. I purchased the album day one and I'm grateful for it in every way. Just wish it were available for everybody all the time like everything else frankly.

I nabbed this last Halloween, after already having a near heart attack by almost missing out on Back to the Future III deluxe, which also vanished without a trace.

Recently ordering Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which just sold out, now gives me reason to invest in aspirin, the giant kind of throat clogger that requires more than a spoonful of sugar.

Off topic PS: Why is The Omen digital album only the Deluxe Edition and not the 40th Anniversary version?

One of the BEST expansions EVER!!
Things like this and THE COWBOYS and THE EIGER SANCTION (even lesser expansions like THE RIVER & ALWAYS) bring such joy to me.
The effort and love that goes into the remastered sound and the booklets and presentation is just phenomenal.
I salute their efforts.

Unwritten rule: Arseholes are going to arsehole

But it’s standard supply and demand - if something is not generally available/scarce/OOP then those with are going to charge a premium. I think it’s possibly worse with film score cds as, relatively, so few are pressed. There’s plenty to go round to begin with but once it’s OOP - lookout…

Yeah, I know, I've been collecting scores since about 2004 or whenever the Varese Club started back up. I guess I was just venting/ranting. They are very quick to jack up those prices! The next day after a sell out and Bam! Williams is my favorite composer and I missed LaLaLand's E.T. release also. I just didnt have tons of money to spend during the pandemic so I waited on getting some titles. Snooze you lose in this game I guess.
There is one Dracula available in Japan but it appears Japan isnt shipping to the US right now.

Also, the recent Varese titles being released onto digital, not all the digital services are carrying them. Varese mentioned there were issues with iTunes over the Star Trek Deluxe Editions, but wouldn't elaborate.
