Maybe we are not well-known here, but since we started to run with the label five years ago, we've always announced our Christmas batch -and always three titles- on the first week of December, except in 2011, when we don’t release anything.

During 2013 we've had releases every two weeks, so it was logical that we kept something for these dates.

There are only 2-3 US releases on my wantlist (Tiomkin, Harline) this season, but probably 15 new releases of Italian soundtracks, including a recent one by Quartet.

So instead of too many, I would say a lack of 60s, 70s soundtracks from anywhere (except Italy) this season.

It seems people on this board want to order ALL US soundtrack and NO foreign soundtrack which I find a bit weird.

Alright, here's my take on it -

It's ironic...Let's rewind the clocks back, say, ten or eleven years ago...Everyone was complaining that their wanted scores never saw the light of day or if it did, it was horribly presented.

Fast forward to present day and you have all the releases you could ever ask for...And you're mad about it? I don't understand. It's like a dog biting the man who finally gives him the bone he's always wanted. I don't mean that as an insult, but it's the perfect analogy.

Yes, it's hard to buy every release, but businesses have to run how they run. It's Christmas, Black Friday, etc. Do you get mad at Walmart for putting out a ton of great deals during this season?

This is the season to release stuff, to capitalize on sales, and try to push product. So of course there's going to be a huge up rise in release activity during this season, that's how it is in any form of retail whether it be clothes, grocery, DVD's, TV's, home appliances, etc.

There's no reason to "Quit" the game, you're taking it to seriously. Just slow down, buy only the ones you really want, and enjoy what you have.

I don't buy releases just because it has a composer's name added to it, I sample it first if I haven't heard it, or the other case is I'm buying it because it's a score I've always wanted. There's way to go about playing the "game" without giving up or feeling like you've lost something.

So let's review the tally so far:

LLL:
Lethal Weapon $119.98
Police Academy (Buy quick and get it signed) $19.98
Superman Returns (Buy quick and get it signed) $24.98
Defiance (Buy quick and get it signed) $21.98
Bonnie & Clyde (Buy quick and get it signed) $15.98
Gunfight At The OK Corral $19.98

Kritzerland:
John Wayne At Fox (1000 limit) $19.98
Sabrina/We're No Angels (1000 limit) $19.98
A Christmas Carol/A Child Is Born (1000 limit) $14.98

Quartet
TBC x 3

Varese Sarabande
TBC

That's $277.82 so far this week (plus around $50+ postage) - not included the current new releases!

Just sayin'

There's obviously no pressure to buy any/all, but if you want 'em they're hard to resist - and many come with "buy it now" incentives.

No it isn't. My observation is around the timing, not the content or quality.

And as for comparisons to Black Friday... those are store discounts, surely. Those are opportunities to pick stuff up for less than they would normally, right? If the labels did THAT for a day I'm sure we'd be quite pleased :-)

Oh please, they are not hard to resist... If you don't have the money for them, I would say they are easy to resist. As is mentioned, these titles aren't selling out overnight anymore (La-la's last x-mas batch still available) and there is no pressure for you to buy right away, unless you want the autographed ones but wouldn't it make sense to just order those titles and not the rest?

Of course the label's expectation is that you do buy and do you think they'd release the amount they do each year if nobody was buying? The majority of film music fans do not buy every single release a label puts out, it's not that simple; you'll have a crowd who loves a certain composer, franchise, era, style, ... If there are people who do buy everything and can't afford to they need to rethink their priorities.

Why put 'em out there now? Labels would have to be stupid not to release anything during these shop crazy holidays. They are also continuing the same shedule as years before; It is also a well known fact that La-la does this X-mas batch, Quartet also had an x-mas batch last year and Varese, well shouldn't we be lucky we're getting a club batch at all after a year of drought?

Of course, but are you sure that all these labels are really re-couping their money on all these christmas releases ??

No, I don't work for them so it is not my concern? I just buy the odd release they put out. I don't have stock in them. wink

The labels should continue to put the releases out when they choose and not respond to the whining from certain posters here.

Firstly, the number of rapid sellouts is very low, now. Most of these releases will be avaiable well into the new year and maybe beyond.

If you want them and can afford it them, buy.

If you want them and can't afford it, then wait.

So easy!

You know Christmas is here when yet another - there's too many releases - thread appears. I'm so fussy about what I buy these days that the more releases there are, the more chance that there's going to be one release that I actually want.

To be fair, autographed copies on some of those LLLR's titles, wre already gone before you made you post. And the McCreary isn't from their label and the Debney is a standard issue.; these can wait for purchase later.

And if you look at passed Black Friday titles from them, some took a while before selling out, and others have yet to sell out, including the TOS box and "The Untouchables".

The Varese Sarabande CD Club titles don't often sell out quickly, except for some of those 1,000 copy re-issues. A number of titles from many years ago, are still available; check them out!

The real problem is Kritzerland, some of these titles sell out in a week or two, if not days. So, your wallet is only in as much danger as you guys chose to let it be.

But don't forget, we've yet to hear from:
One more Intrada batch (December 17)
Music Box
Howlin' Wolf
MovieScore Media (or did I miss their December titles?)
Digitmovies
Perserverance
BuySoundtrax
and any surprise Prometheus coming up?

I'm sure I missed other labels.

That's fine if you only buy 2 or 3 a year. None of this matters one bit if you're not buying any of them! LOL But if you genuinely *want* a lot of this stuff - as I do - then it's something of a challenge to keep up. Or rather to keep up AND keep that whole Christmas thing going.

I'm guessing an awful lot of people here are either single or unpopular at home! :-)

I'm sure there'll be another 40 releases next month to stop that from happening!

Still, bring on the Varese, I'm hoping for at least $500 worth! There's always Easter... lol

I just can't think why you'd want to buy so many releases. I don't buy pop/rock or classical by the pound, so I don't buy soundtracks that way...or DVD/Blu-rays, books, whatever. I could afford to buy a lot more than I do, but I'm way beyond just buying something for the sake of it.

Because these are all very, very good scores!
