The audio samples are working again. I don't think I'm hearing any new music in the first 3 samples so far. But the audio does sound sharper and clearer to me.

The first sample includes new music. In the album the music stops when they find the Montana, the music in this sample is for the scene right after, I love the low "chorus" in this track.
The only alternate track in the samples is Crashing Crane (Alternate) and it really does sound different. The whole second minute of it could easily have been transplanted onto a different action scene and no one would've known where it came from. It's a very good cue, it just went with more of the adventure theme than the hard-edged action sound.
OK, thanks. Hopefully this CD is also a sign of some synergy that the Blu-rays of Abyss and True Lies are coming next year (for the 25th and 20th anniversaries). They've been rumored for a while, but supposedly Eliza Dushku said a new cast commentary was recorded earlier this year for True Lies.
They've got to get Pee Wee's Big Adventure out as a single for those of us who didn't buy the giant Burton boxed set. C'mon, the first Elfman and Burton collaboration. This is a historic score that deserves wider availability. Like Abyss, Pee Wee's Big Adventure was one of the first non-John Williams scores I ever bought. I think I might've bought it at Coconuts the same day I bought Abyss.
Anyone know if The Abyss is heading to blu-ray yet? Thanks.
The short answer is yes. Cameron has been working on the transfer for what seems like (and may well be) years. It's just a question of when. He's been understandably busy with other things, so who knows when it might actually get finished. Last I read on Digital Bits was that Fox was working towards a 2014 release. Fingers crossed. I just hope it includes the theatrical version.
I just ran THE ABYSS DVD after many years, and tried to listen for music I didn't know from the old CD. Nothing stood out as far as I'm concerned, so have at it.
It's an important score in my film music fandom -- one of the first that really made me a soundtrack fan in the first place. That being said, even the original release has segments that aren't that exciting (like the militaristic percussion stuff or some suspense cues), and I'm suspecting all the extra music belongs in that category. I'll certainly sample the soundtrack for curiousity, but I seriously doubt I'll be picking it up, alltime favourite or not.
It's obvious you're not going to buy the expanded soundtrack. Why even mention it? There's always such positivity when a new expanded score released, and there's always you to throw in your redundant two cents worth.

For pity's sake, don't encourage him! He's got a pocket full of pennies.

I'm not seeing any samples.
