This thread seems like a fair moment to revive this one: http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=100951&forumID=1&archive=0

The winning song from 2014's Eurovision Song Contest, 'Rise Like A Phoenix' performed by Conchita Wurst sounds Bond-like to me (seriously!)...

Indeed it does. But than again, the whole song sounds like someone trying to be David Arnold writing for Shirley Bassey.

I'm amazed this song hasn't appeared in the thread yet.

...

Probably because Jim, OP, stated Not counting songs from spoofs, parodies, and other secret agent franchises ...

Clearly, I fail at reading first thing in the morning.

Carry on!

IMO the best non-Bond "Bond" song there ever was is "Once and Again" by Piero Piccioni and Shawn Robinson:

Edit - can't get the video to show up so here's the link:

Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" from Rumors. Every time I hear it I think it is the best darn Bond song which was not a Bond song! Close your eyes and you can totally see Maurice Binder's titles in your head. Even the lyrics work well- "Run in the shadows....damn your love, damn your lies..."
Loved it so much I added it to my Bond playlist in iTunes!

Anyone agree?

I don't get any Bond feeling from it but I *do* associate that very song with Marvel Comics' Master of Kung Fu book, which during its Paul Gulacy-art period, was a "Bruce Lee in the World of James Bond" subgenre.

Gary Numan!

He has a newer album comprised of other artists redoing his works, BUT the brilliant gem therein is his own original track, which I am ***certain*** was submitted to someone as a Bond song (for Skyfall):

For You

from the album

Dead Moon Falling

The quality here isn`t as good as the album... much bass missing, but you get the picture. My kind of Bond song/title screen/film.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMeZq8o4NR0

(strange that the linking isn`t working.)

For the embedded link to work you have to include the "https" but remove the "s."

It wouldn't have sounded out of place on the Skyfall album, that's for sure (sounds like some of Newman's work on same).

I like it!

The Arcadia album keeps on giving would-be Bond songs:

"The Promise"

"El Diablo"

The latter is a bit long, so an appropriate edit would be necessary. smile
