My #1 request for a premiere: Miklos Rozsa's Eye of the Needle, the film recording of which is completely unreleased (officially) on CD, but was recently restored for the complete isolated score track from Twilight Time. It is a title controlled by Varese in perpetuity because of the LP rerecording they released (under the composer's baton but with a different orchestra). A few years back Varese reissued that recordings in their Encore Edition line, neglecting to just do a two disc Deluxe Edition with both recordings. Hoping that can be rectified now that the score has already been restored for the Blu-ray track? My #1 request for a reissue (though would this not just be an Encore Edition?): Jerry Goldsmith's Masada album recording. Out of print for many years, this was a wonderful performance (a larger orchestra than the original recording, albeit a much shorter total run time at only 37 minutes). The CD issue had some mastering problems, particularly on the tracks that made up side 2 of the original LP. A fresh remaster would be fantastic! Reissue runner up: the Varese Utah Symphony album recording of Bernstein's The Black Cauldron. Yavar

Yavar, MCA released the LP of MASADA originally. I imagine Intrada would be the folks who might have first dibs at a re-issue of it, given their relationship with Universal (as you well know, they also released the original score with the Mort Stevens stuff). I know; that's why I didn't refer to it as a Varese recording (as I did with the Utah Symphony Black Cauldron). But Varese handled the only issue of it on CD, and Intrada for whatever reason elected not to include it on their otherwise definitive Masada release. (They certainly did decide to go to the trouble of licensing out all the Ten Commandments album recording material for their latest release, so I wonder why they didn't consider it worthwhile for Masada.) Of course ideally they could reissue that (perhaps newly remastered with more recent technology) and add the album recording in this time. But I suspect hoping for a reissue of the album recording on its own is more realistic at this point. It needs to happen! Oh, and I'll second the person who wants a new CD release of Lionheart. But it shouldn't require two discs, unless there are unused cues or alternates we don't know about: between their two volumes, Varese released the complete score. The material from those volumes would ideally be rearranged into chronological order on a reissue, and the cue that is repeated between them excised which would allow it all to barely fit on a single disc. (But hell if there are any interesting alternates or especially unused cues, bring on a two disc deluxe release!) Yavar

A really cool concept. Thanks for this, Peter. Was this crazy thing your brainchild? If so (and even if not so), bravo. Can't wait to see what comes our way.

What the heck ! It can't hurt putting my wish list out there. So here goes.ON GOLDEN POND [WITHOUT DIALOGUE] I agree AND disagree - I'd like to see a CD with the album contents as well as the stand-alone score. I'm so accustomed to that album as it is, that I like the dialogue. But because it's such a gorgeous score I'd like it on its own, too. Should all fit onto one CD.
