Made it through my first playthrough of the sets. There's a huge amount to digest and it'll take repeated listenings to really appreciate it. My first impression is that Volume 3 is, on the whole, more enjoyable than Volume 2 if not maybe quite at the level of the first set. The decision to go for longer suites this time was a good one... it gives the set its own distinct flavor and showcases Snow's work in a different light than the first two volumes. For the most part, the episodes selected have enough good material that they can sustain the longer suites with the odd exception (Trustno1, El Mundo Gira). My preference has always been for Snow's music for the first couple of seasons with definite diminishing returns for me from season 6 and beyond. With those preferences in mind, I have to say the first disk of this set is just incredibly good... it's going to get a lot of play. The material in the remaining disks is excellent if not quite as strong overall as disk 1 to my ear, but there's still a lot of highlights in there. Special props to the produces for the super lengthy suite (must be close to the complete score!) from Drive which is a spooky, tense and sad score that I've loved since I've first seen the episode. I really hope there'll be a fourth and final volume from the series. But even if this is it, its remarkable to think that we now have 15 or so hours of music from the show in these sets which is just huge after having only had the 45 minutes from The Truth and the Light for all of those years. Thank you so much LLL and Mark Snow! Chris P.S. Please please please include some music from Duane Barry/Ascension, Never Again and the teaser from Invocation in the next set!
