The nostalgia for Dungeons and Dragons is crazy. I remember watching the series on Saturday mornings. Would've never believed it would be a merchandising cash cow in 2024.
While I certainly watched the 80's animated D&D series when I was kid, I have less nostalgia for it than I do for the Transformers and GI Joe shows, plus the concurrent Spiderman and Incredible Hulk cartoons. For me, it's really just about Douglas's music, although funny enough, the one cue from D&D that I best recalled and wanted is actually from his Incredible Hulk series score, which is the cue "Catastrophe" - thankfully now already available!

Understood, but there's a merchanting blitz going on right now. There's not only the upcoming music but HASBRO is releasing action figures from the series and a German company did a commercial based on D&D some years ago too. I'm surprised it has such a big following.
"Only 1 week until release day of the Dungeons and Dragons original animation music album from the 1983 TV series. Excerpt from the track Presto's Magic saves the day."
I want this and the Hulk and Spider-Man stuff but dammit, I want CD releases!
We won't get them. I realised that when Transformers, Thundercats and DuckTales didn't happen. I'm not even sure how we're getting these on digital to be honest, but I'm not complaining.

Well, you could always burn a CD of these tracks if you download them as lossless? I know that when I created customized playlists of the Hulk and Spider-man "uncut" albums, I burned CD copies of these for good measure...

It's interesting how much of Douglas's music for the D&D series resembles that symphonic concert work of his, released on album around 2000, I think. Some of the melodies are even quite similar.
Unfortunately the Transformers and GI Joe albums with his music are not on that YT channel, but those albums are of course available on other streaming platforms. But that Johnny Douglas in Concert album is certainly worth a listen for any fans of his cartoon series scores...
Posted yesterday: "Excerpt from The Medieval Castle in the Sky track. Only 2 weeks until release day of the Dungeons and Dragons original animation music album from the 1983 TV series"
I just realized that the melody heard at around 1 minute into this clip of a D&D cue is the same melody as heard in "The Conquest, Pt. 1: The Awakening", the opening piece of Douglas's symphonic concert work - I knew it sounded familiar!
Album is out today - showing up on my Spotify. Looks like 17 tracks and 38min of music.
From FB:
"The day is here: Happy 40th Birthday UK Dungeons and Dragons. Original music from the series composed by Johnny Douglas released today to coincide with the anniversary of the series first being shown in the UK on the BBC. So pleased to finally give the loyal fans the music they’ve been waiting for patiently, for four decades. Happy Listening! Link to the main streaming platforms is: https://johnnydouglas.lnk.to/dungeonsanddragons"
Also from the comments on the FB page: "...it was recorded in Mono. Some of the main streaming platforms rejected the mono so I had to resave the files as stereo ??. There won’t be an uncut release as I don’t have anymore audio for D&D. Hope you enjoy the album."
Can someone who is digital savvy explain to me how to download the tracks. I usually use Amazon but it doesn't seem to be on there. I've not used the other sites to purchase music.
I have been waiting for this for decades, but it seems it's not 100% complete, is it? I loved a particular tune for scenes in which the children were traveling from one place to another, but I haven't heard it. I'm going to start my 3rd listen and pay extra attention just in case. In any case, still a massive development to have this when just a short while ago it was thought lost forever!
I kept forgetting to post my kudos here on this score release! It's really very well sequenced from start to finish, the themes and variations spread out in an engaging fashion, with an excellent wrap up track.
