I would agree that Coppola did go overboard at several points during the movie For sure is the movie over the top... it has the feeling of a dream, as if one nodded off reading the book while having a tad too much absinthe. It is surreal, it is supposed to be... it's more in line with Buñuel, Méliès, Cocteau, not so much with classic horror movies by Universal or Hammer. That's what I like about it so much. One of the film's many virtues is how brilliantly over the top it is. Certainly some of the excess may have rubbed some viewers the wrong way, like the crazy costume designs and some of the performances. But yes, it does play like a delirious fever dream. I think of it is a masterpiece with certain minor flaws, two of those having the last names of Ryder and Reeves. I'm not bothered by Hopkins' performance, as Yavar is, because he's so entertaining, and just one of the many cases where the film winks at its audience. Despite the reincarnation love angle, it remains the most faithful to the Stoker novel. And Kilar's score was/is amazing, so original, so powerful, with the right touch of obsession and weirdness.

3000 does not seem very much for a popular score like this but LLL always knows what they are doing. Well no one always knows what they're doing. I mean, yeah, LLL definitely has a better idea than we the fans do as to how well these kinds of releases sell or can be expected to sell. Still, there will always be miscalculations. Remember when LLL thought Passion of the Christ was going to sell 10,000 copies? Was that a "leap of faith"?

I think 3000 is a lot for a CD these days, to be honest. Cheers

I love this score and movie--and yes, it should have received an Oscar nomination. I remember being just about blown out of my seat with astonishment at how great the opening moments of the score were when I saw it for the first time in a theater. Agreed. It’s a magnificent score and a very different take on the Dracula story as compared to JW version. I’m passing on Schindler’s List but this one is tops on my radar.

With all the damn Draculas roaming about, I've never been so happy to be out of garlic.

All all of todays “pre-orders” part of the Shipping starts Dec 7th? If so I need to hang out a couple weeks before I order. Black Friday was a killer. I’d be much more into purchasing immediately if they would be in stock and shipping... the early announcment is cool but I’m going to have to wait. We complain about this every year, but damn I really wish the titles were available for pre-order IMMEDIATELY with the announcement. Impulse buys are no longer impulsive when you have to wait 4 days to order.

Impulse buys are no longer impulsive when you have to wait 4 days to order. I have crossed oceans of time for this release. I can wait another 4 days.

For me, definitely the best of the batch. A superb score, getting a justified expansion.
