Academia is a world unto itself. Intellectuals talking to other intellectuals in a language only they understand. I wish that were true, but I am personally witnessing how academia's pervasive and extreme ideology is now filtering directly into corporate culture, and determining what employees are allowed to say, and what beliefs they must at least appear to adopt. Not woke enough for the latest "new rules" that are never clearly defined? Career over.

Don't sweat it fellas. There'll always be a safe haven for the aging white male perspective on the FSM board. Thank god they got their representation!

Zap, go to a search engine that isn't Google, like DuckDuckgo.com, and look up "The Penis as a Social Construct"...

Counting down the seconds until aging white male and serial oppressor Jeff Bond gives up his liner-note-scribbling gig to an "oppressed" minority. Step aside for diversity, Jeff; it's the only way. Now into the diversity gulag you go, boy! Jessica "Getman"? Really? Getman? As in "get..man"...get man! She was born to take down the aging white male oppressor! No gendered language! That's GetPerson! Got it!

I've just skimmed the first few chapters and it looks "fascinating". I'm not that interested in (or bothered by) the 21st Century feminist slant, but it's still good to read - or skip through - stuff that's more than "Fred Steiner was great, and so was Gerald Fried, and George Duning, but Sol Kaplan's my favourite". But as a Star Trek music geek who actually DOES love reading that George Duning and Fred Steiner were great and my favourites, I loved the "NOTES ON MUSIC MEETING 12/08/64" - I paraphrase - Jerry Goldsmith - Not available. Elmer Bernstein - Interested - Likes pilot. Les Baxter - Available - Wilbur Hatch reluctant... Franz Waxman - Avaialable. Johnny Williams is mentioned too as a contender, as are "Hugo Friedholder" (sic), "David Raxton" (sic) and "Lalo Schiffrin" (sic). Schifrin was being apparently being checked out by Wilbur Hatch at the time. By the way, the "sics" aren't mine, but appear in the disseratation with the sics added. So, to whoever's credit, they knew how to correct misspellings of names. Maybe all that news isn't news to you other really total music/ SF geeks, but it was news to me. I'm looking forward to reading the whole thing. If it gets too Aungdry Bazong, I'll skim ahead to see if adjectives are used to describe the music ("Heartbreaking", "Stirring", "Glorious", "Beautiful"). At least the composers are mentioned by name. Aungdrey Bazong only mentioned one composer once in all his meez-ong-senn waffle, and that was to say that the author (Truffo) was dead, and that Shorsh Dehluhrewh created some sounds. I love all kinds of new slants on old shit, even if they're not really new at all, and often bollocks.

Fontana) or his then-girlfriend (Majel Barrett)?
