Elders? In most CULTURES, they are venerated. Not.ignored and.disrespected. Especially those.of us who grew.up in.the cauldron of.the.civil rights era. Experience is more important than ideolgy

It is. And I remember at one point Sheriff Joe asked me to help moderate and I said, "No." I told him if I help moderate it, I would kick half the members out for their behavior. I think someone needs to do that here even more so all these years later. J Right. Censor unpopular views. That always works.

People who are that easily triggered, or want to censor people they don't agree with, should feel free to take the exit door, and not feel the need to make pompous, long-winded posts trying to make themselves look virtuous. Maybe they should take themselves right off the internet altogether, as the concept of freedom of speech/expression, is apparently beyond them. The real world is not a "safe space" stuffed with soothing colouring books and stuffed toys. You.agree with ME?! Where did I go right?! Ahahaha

My ignore list is certainly more robust than ever these days. Half of this thread doesn’t even show up for me, and I’m ok with that. I've resisted doing that but maybe I should reconsider. My only question is, when you put someone on the ignore list, does it sometimes make threads hard to follow? Or do conversations/threads still pretty much make sense? I've lost count of the number of posters I now have on the ignore list, but I find the threads mostly still make sense, since even someone you're trying ignore is still visibly quoted whenever anyone replies to them. I'll see a silly, toxic, petty, or just outright mean remark in italics, and say to myself "yup! There's the very thing I'm trying to ignore!" But those italicized quotes really help to make sense of the conversations, even while the ignore function itself helps to keep things leaner, cleaner, and intelligent. I heartily recommend hitting ignore, lots. My criteria for doing so? Name calling, insults, repetitive pedantry, or base, foul language. Like I say, I've lost count of the members I've blocked, and I'm sure these threads are only half the length they would be ... and I'm fine with that!

I like forthright, lively, tough-love interchange. It's best not to be too dickish, but otherwise, passion, laced with wit and honesty, should be encouraged. As an enthusiastic defender of free speech, I get a bit queasy when people say, "be nice," when what they really mean is "shut up!" It's certainly good to be polite and understanding of what others are saying, but it's also right to be honest, frank, strong, and to have no fear to call out b.s. when one sees it.

I would never try to censor opinions. My posts against a specific person (and someone who ironically claims that they "don't post anymore") were more about the number of seemingly insubstantial posts, some of which are apparently not meant to be taken literally (?), and few of which really add to any discussions. I do believe generally speaking that if people are so immature that they are constantly looking for things to be offended by (usually on behalf of others), and want to censor, that they should get off the internet. This was not directed at the same person, as we seem to share an opinion on this, but others who are standing by the exit door throwing around words like "toxic!" and "racist!" and acting like they are superior to everyone else, but apparently can't figure out how to work the door handle. You start off saying this person shouldn’t post his opinion. Then you champion free speech. Then you suggest that they should just leave the internet completely.

I agree 100 % with the original poster. I am slowly learning to ignore the most annoying people here though. That's the best thing to do anyway.
