I'm fairly confident I've done this topic before, but I couldn't find it. Holy maracas. A thread Thor couldn't find. Is the world coming to an end?

Anyway, to keep up with the positive re-ignition of the board atmosphere, I'm curious about which FSM members you've met in real life before? How was it? What was the setting? I have only met a handful of members, although I would love to meet more. The biggest event was the San Francisco gathering Thor organized. It happened a while ago, so forgive me if I missed someone, but it was attended by Thor, myself, riotengine, Basil Wrathbone, David in Berkeley, and Bruce Marshall. We met for a few hours over dinner and drinks, and a good time was had by all. I thought we had some great conversations, and fortunately, no one felt compelled to call Lukas or David to intervene. During San Diego Comic Con I met Sirusjr for dinner and drinks, and had a lot of fun. I also met some others at San Diego Comic Con, but as the conversations lasted less than a minute, I don't know that those count. Hopefully at this year's San Diego Comic Con I can meet up with some FSM members again. How did it differ from the personality you had encountered online, or did it? I think that the only major difference was that after a few beers, Thor revealed that he actually prefers C&C releases. Just kidding. Ah, yes. i remember it well. Greg Espinoza

I have met in person only Jim Doherty and Paul MacLean (who didn't include me in HIS list, either because I joined here only a couple of weeks ago, or possibly because I wasn't memorable!). Paul and I met as fellow fans at a 1989 Jerry Goldsmith concert in Michigan; young Paul had his own entourage. Even though it's been 30 years (sheesh!), I still feel bad that I offered to record an audiocassette of the LP of RANSOM (THE TERRORISTS) for one of Paul's friends, yet forgot to get the guy's name and address. So I expect that among that group I met even more future FSMers but remember only one by name. I was doubly pleased five years later when Goldsmith's HIGH VELOCITY score was finally issued, because I recognized Paul from his credit as author of its booklet notes. Jim and I had heard about each other for years from a close mutual friend, yet we never met or spoken until that irreplaceable friend's memorial service in 2010. Jim is a good fellow who is now, alas, the most devoted Herrmann admirer I still know. I haven't spoken to him in a few years now, and think I should do something about that.

...young Paul had his own entourage. I thought every FSMer had his own entourage, like the kind Eddie Murphy had in the '80s. It was just like that, except for none in that group smoking anything or wearing leather.
