Glad I can finally toss the bootleg and get this legit release. I just wish Ron Howard or the studio would finally release the 3 hour TV cut of the movie on bluray too. I have an old 2nd or 3rd generation recording of it from when it originally aired on TV in the late 90s and the picture quality is awful. I'd love to get the full extended cut on video like the studio did for the similar Waterworld 3 hour TV cut a few years ago. There's some nice extra scenes in the 3 hour cut that enrich the film in my opinon.

What a great St. Patrick’s day surprise, unexpected and very welcome! Thanks MM, LLL, universal, and especially the Maestro! I always skipped the Enya song on the original CD anyway, so it won’t be missed (but I’ll keep the old CD just because), and I have no need for the original album to be included unless it contains unique takes or something, so this new release is perfect!

I don't know why, but I thought this complete score was already released by LaLaLand. CURSE YOU, NELSON MANDELA EFFECT! PS: I see now, "reissue". That means the original one went out of print and I didn't even know it....

And who cares about a silly song by Enya...

See....I don't get it. The original album is released with the expansion everyone cheers. Here it's not....but it's fine? I just. Don't. Get. It. Well, clearly not everyone cheers.

Question: Track list shows "22 The Reunion (Film Version) 2:57" But I don't see any other version. Was there one on the old CD which is different (but left off here) and now we're finally getting the film version?

Hopefully Shout Factory or Arrow will tackle this eventually. Did any of the extra scenes have underscore (tracked or otherwise)? I don't recall. It's been a few years since I last watched it and wasn't paying that close to the music at the time. There's info on IMDB about the additional scenes but I don't think it goes into music either. If there was any music in them I assume it was tracked in from existing score. Maybe someone else who has seen the TV cut can offer more info. In any case, it annoys me that this film has never gotten any special edition treatment either on DVD or bluray. Both were very barebones. At the time it seemed like Ron Howard had put great effort into the movie, so it's a shame he doesn't want to do an SE with a commentary or behind the scenes retrospective on the making of the film. The film isn't a favorite among many, but at the very least I consider the land run scene an amazing sequence on a grand scale with all live action actors/animals in the style of old school movie making with no CGI used.

As I wrote earlier I believe the Leaving Home scoring was longer in the extended TV version. Also, I would never 'assume' that a Director doesn't want a special edition of his work being made available. It's most probably Universal that is holding one back. I would want the extended Far and Away as well as Kasdan's Wyatt Earp. Both films are imo vastly underrated.

I would want the extended Far and Away as well as Kasdan's Wyatt Earp. Both films are imo vastly underrated. You never know with directors. The film didn't do well at the box office, so it could be simply that the studio never wanted to do a special edition of it for laserdisc/dvd/bluray due to it being a disappointing and forgettable early 90s film, but I recall Ron talking about it being kind of a passion project at the time to tell in a fictional narrative a story about how his family immigrated to America. So I'd hope that given his initial interest in the film and the clout he had in hollywood, a special edition could have been produced at some point, but then again maybe he just wanted to put the film behind him and move on after it didn't do well in theaters.

Preordered this immediately. And let me add my voice to those who desperately want the 3-hr version of the film released. It's a much better film. I've been after Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Bob Dolman, Image Entertainment, ABC, Universal, Arrow and Shout Factory for years about this.
