Strictly speaking, the Medieval period ended at the close of the 15th century. Therefore films such as "The Last Valley" which takes place during the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) really doesn't fit into this discussion.}
Youre discounting my Last Valley??! On a minor technicality??! Outrageous.
Jeanne d'Arc/Joan of Arc (1927/1983) [Denmark] Ole Schmidt -released [silent film score]
I’m not familiar with this score, and have only seen this film with Voices of Light (assuming this is Passion of Joan of Arc you’re referring to, which I wouldn’t have thought of since it only covers her trial and death). What’s this score like?
I’d guessed no one would mention it so I will.... GAWAIN AND THE GREEN KNIGHT (1973) with an absolute belter of a score by Ron Goodwin. When Intrada put this out a while back (with 2 cds!!) I was totally stunned. It really was one of my holy grails and the kind of thing I never thought would happen considering how hard it seems to be to even find the film!
I was trying to remember the name of that film/score. I knew Green Knight was in the title. Totally agree.
Do you know about how much music Jones wrote for the movie?
I'm not sure. According to Paul Tonks' interview with Trevor Jones in Film Score Monthly (back in the 1990s), the composer stated "The original Excalibur with John Boorman ran four and a half hours". So, one can only speculate, but I'd guess he wrote more music than anyone has heard.
Was a massive fan of Excalibur on release and saw it multiple times, and obsessed with the music. Could not believe there wasn't a soundtrack album at the time. In recent years I did go down the bad route and therein lies a lesson as it stopped playing after a while. Surely there will be one one day? Who is stopping that idea? I'd certainly buy it in a heartbeat.
My wish is for 'The Black Knight'. I think it was by Addison. A film with knights in it but not really about knights that I would like to see newly recorded is 'Francis of Assisi' (Nascimbene) complete with the hymns included on the old lp.
First Knight-- there are knights in it right? It reads more like sci-fi than historical fiction or even fantasy, so it could be missing actual knights.
A favourite of mine is "Lancelot and Guinevere" by Ron Goodwin. I know two concert suites of this music. I don't know if the original score was ever released.

So sorry, Bill. I hadn't meant to sound so high-bound ("...really doesn't fit into this discussion").

Tack, I was compiling a list of 100 Years War movies and managed to incorrectly include "Joan of Arc" (you are correct, it should have read "The Passion of Joan of Arc").
I had meant to say "Jeanne la pucelle/Joan the Maid (1994) [France] Jordi Savall -released
Another "Joan" movie that contains battle scenes would be the 1948 U.S. film, "Joan of Arc" (Ingrid Bergman) which has a beautiful Hugo Friedhofer score [unreleased!!].
"The Passion of Joan of Arc" music by the late Ole Schmidt I thought was fantastic. It was released on the Danish label DaCapo (it's parent company is the budget label Naxos)
