I had a brother who passed away at age 31. He had a serious heart condition caused by childhood rheumatic fever and was fully aware of it. In spite of warnings, he worked like a mad man every day. One night after work he feel asleep in his easy chair and never woke up. In spite of knowing this risk, he was taken from us too soon.

Not a sob story but a comparison of sorts.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Eee-Dee.
Losing a brother can easily be as painful as losing a father or a husband or a son.
I sincerely hope he did not suffer in his last moments.

Thank you Oct. He was a wonderful guy and a true big brother. He fell asleep after his shift and passed peacefully.

Horner really hurt because it was unexpected and he was still so full of talent and he had a long career ahead of him.

So many of the composers that we love had long, rich careers so in the case of Horner, it really feels like a monumental loss.

I don't think any modern composers beside Williams or Zimmer have entered the public consciousness as strongly as Horner--he was the introduction to film music for a lot of people and that creates a lasting bond.

Just a shout out and a little love for Battle Beyond The Stars...still my number one grail in complete form.
Still have the vinyl album released and purchased back in the early 1980s here in the uk.
Often play the unmentionable bootleg complete recordings...but the sound sucks!!!

By following the link you will find the 20-minute tribute video we published on Monday for the fifth anniversary of the composer's passing.

http://jameshorner-filmmusic.com/james-horner-five-years-after/

We reached out to his friends, his peers, his collaborators and his family and asked them to share their memories and thoughts.

That was a nice tribute video. Thanks.
Great to hear all those good words from the people who worked with him and/or recognised his emormous talent.
Christopher Young and Roger Feigelson especially.
Class.
