"I'm the bad guy! I don't save the day, I don't fly off into the sunset, and I don't get the girl! I'm going home." Megamind (Music From The Motion Picture) - Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe
The animated superhero (or in this case super villain) movie was released in theaters ten years ago today. The score is very fun and upbeat compared to the majority of Zimmer’s superhero movie output. Even though it wouldn’t surprise me if the majority of this score was written by Balfe, while Zimmer mostly provided the themes and produced the score. Megamind’s theme is very catchy especially during the first track “Giant Blue Hero” which has this music box /lullaby version of the theme. “Roxanne (Love Theme)”, which is a romantic version of the love theme/Roxanne theme, is another highlight cue. The four songs, which not only is incongruent with the score cues, but also disrupts the flow of the score due to how each are randomly placed between the score tracks. The album also ends abruptly with the last track “Evil Lair”, which doesn‘t feel or seem like a proper finale of the score. Overall still a decent score from Zimmer and Balfe.
