Watched it last night. The music was absolutely serviceable, not terrible, not great. It definitely works better in the movie than a standalone listen.
Except I think we could be certain that the filmmakers/producers wanted the EDM/dubstep sound.
Oh yeah, I know THEY wanted it. I’m just saying it’s an overall mistake to make a movie in this day and age centered around 90s EDM / Techno music.
Even back then it was a mistake, but just a stupid silly fun mistake that entertained people for a brief time.
With all due respect I wouldn't call the 2021 Mortal Kombat Theme 90s EDM. That was definitely modern day style dub step music and techno. I prefer the original Mortal Kombat movie theme to the new version personally, but objectively the newer version is far more in line with today's style of music. I still like the new version too. It's actually pretty good and again, it fits in with modern day music. The older version sounds like it's from the 90s. This new version fits in with today's style.
