I've read the book, years ago, and it is a riveting read. Not a novel but a study of the voodoo and zombie culture of Haiti written by a Harvard anthropologist, if memory serves. Now THAT I would buy a Deluxe edition of.

Yeah....the film takes the general theme of that and ( pretty successfully IMHO) mixes in the supernatural horror elements. I read the book as well and loved it and when I saw the film, came away feeling for all its added in fantastic elements, it still felt like a pretty good adaption ... although going bat-shit crazy at the end!. The music just makes it all really work as well. Never been a great fan of Mr Fiedel’ scores but he knocked it outta the park on this one!
I love that apt description of the score. The movie is definitely worth checking out if you haven’t seen it. It admittedly gets a little over-the-top at the climax, but on the whole it’s very well done. I love the opening titles and the procession scene. It also has some very convincing on-screen riots. It almost looks like something behind the scenes got a little out of control at one point.
Also the scene with the skeleton bride apparition and the snake is super creepy. That was terrifying the first time I saw it. Also the torture scene.
And any film with Paul Winfield is worth viewing in my books.
... with a bonus selection of additional music by Nigerian drummer and recording artist Michael Babatunde Olatunji. Some of the Olatunji selections are heard in the film; others were part of a rejected score.
Does Justin Boggan know of this?
Would this be the first (only?) instance of music by a Nigerian getting rejected by filmmakers?

Yeah, it's been on my site for years. He's actually the first victim on the film and it takes 2nd Place as the weirdest story on the site (the 1st Place winner involving multiple composers on a film, is still being researched...):
Well this is odd. I ordered both titles but it looks like they’re shipping them out one at a time. Did anyone who ordered both titles receive them in separate shipments?
They’re shipping out mine separately also. I can’t figure this one out. I tried sending them an email but surprise surprise no response.
I contacted them this morning, since my copy hasn't shipped yet - placed separate orders for this and Along Came A Spider (which arrives today), since the snafu with ordering Serpent was happening at the time. The response I received minutes ago: "So sorry for the delay here. I believe there was a production issue with the CD but I am looking into this for you!". Not sure what that may be - especially since others have received their copies. Will update once I hear back.
"We are emailing to let you know that The Serpent And The Rainbow deluxe CD order has been delayed. A jewel case assembly issue was discovered as the product was being prepared for shipment. Our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused as we work to correct the mistake. The remainder of your order will be sent out immediately in the interim. As always, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with a tracking number as soon as each part of your order goes out. We anticipate Serpent CDs will be sent in a couple of weeks."
