Yeah, while I've probably heard it as early as the late 90s (I do own the Skywalker CD, after all, which features this), I must have forgotten all about it and assumed it was a relatively new arrangement.

Thanks for the comments on the review, ryan and Mark. I hope the broadcast gets more widely available at some point (perhaps even on Blu-ray, who knows?), because even though I wasn't there on Saturday, it's still a nice memento.

Considering some of the audio releases which the Berlin Philharmonic has done in the last few years, I suspect they will issue this concert on DVD/Blu-Ray/CD. This will be a big money-maker for them if they do this. This page shows some of the things they have released so far:

Nice. I hope if they do all this they could add an SACD too.

This brief YouTube video shows the end of the October 15 (Friday) concert.

There were 18 selections at the concert, and after every one of them on the Berlin Philharmonic's Digital Concert Hall archive, we have an annoying 45+ second crawl of production credits. There were 3 selections from Harry Potter, for example ... why did we need to have this crawl after EACH ONE? Why not after all three?

Maybe this has something to do with the commercial in the crawl for the Covid-testing company which allowed the musicians to be seated close to each other?

It is not unusual to have a crawl at the DCH after a piece the orchestra plays, though that is typically after a classical work which is long. The crawl usually doesn't start until after the conductor and orchestra bow, the conductor goes off stage and then returns, sometimes multiple times. I don't think that Williams went off stage other than at the intermission and the end and he does return once in the above YouTube video. Yes, I know he is 89; Herbert Blomstedt, who conducted a classical concert recently, is 94 (!) and he didn't sprint back and forth either.

The DCH in another recent classical concert that I watched, also cut out footage of the conductor getting exercise. But, on the other hand, in the past, there were two pops concerts held at an outdoor venue where we didn't have crawl interruptions after each piece: June 26, 2021, conducted by Wayne Marshall with guest artist Martin Grubinger who performed a lengthy fantasy on musical themes by John Williams and June 28, 2015 with Simon Rattle leading the orchestra in works by Kaper, Raksin, Moross, Korngold, Bradley, Rozsa and Williams.

I wonder if breaking up the concert on the DCH with these interruptions is designed to make people want to buy this concert when and if it is released on DVD/Blu-Ray, as I'm sure it will be. I don't know if the Berlin Philharmonic would release the concert via DGG, like the Vienna Philharmonic did. The BPO has their own "label" of sorts (you can see some of the releases here: https://www.berliner-philharmoniker-recordings.com/). They are not particularly cheap and come in packaging which is designed NOT to fit in with other similar media.

UK Amazon, 2 CDs and 2 Blu-Rays (the listing at one point says only 3 discs):
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Berlin-Concert-Deluxe-2CD-2BR/dp/B09KN2QCP4

US Amazon, CD and vinyl:
https://www.amazon.com/Berlin-Concert-2-LP/dp/B09LZNNX68

The listings are confusing. If you change the .co.uk or .com in the URL to other jurisdictions (i.e., .ca, .fr or .de) you may find information on release in other jurisdictions.

If you change the co.uk one above to .com, it only exists as an import, and the label currently is "Deutsche Gram France."

I ordered this edition from Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09KN2N3F4/

And it arrived today - it's a jewel case edition!

There's also a Digipak edition that looks like this:

And a 4-disc Blu Ray / CD combo set that looks like this:

But neither are on Amazon US from what I can tell (except as expensive imports)

The best place for US residents to order these editions seems to be Presto Music

https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9266545--john-williams-the-berlin-concert-blu-ray-edition

They have the jewel case edition too

Jason do you know what the difference is between the regular 2-CD jewel case edition and the Digipak edition?
