That album-then-piecemeal retail strategy might make people hold off on new albums. And that means disappointing sales, and that means the expanded cues don't even get added. If that's the way it works, it's pretty stupid. It can't be that way.

The PRODIGY characters look to be inspired by STAR WARS, FANTASTIC 4, and AVATAR. But I will probably never see enough of it to say for myself that it's a bad show.

Vol.4 has been added,2part Finale still missing which has the best action cues of the entire show.Hopefully Vol.5.Btw the show itself is a lot of fun, kinda like star wars rebels.basicly a sequel to voyager.

Very confusing on iTunes. Like someone doesn't know what doing. Different length compilations in volumes and a mega volume running count. Im totally lost.

I'm sure we will Lakeshore is just so damn slow - the vinyl for the first season of Lower Decks was just being advertised recently. Supply chain and the desire for vinyl releases has really slowed things down.

My first post in years and its because I'm bamboozled by the soundtrack releases for Prodigy.

If I see it correctly its

For the first half of the music

https://open.spotify.com/album/3xePIgWfYOOWp2bgAP0suc?si=LP6nTZWHRR6TKQ6hrzHkZg

and

Vol 5 for part 2

https://open.spotify.com/album/1Z35Cm1XC0khFQR1fTGHHY?si=rSTV3mTFRtuut7dym_u7pw

Happy to see Lakeshore have finally released the Strange New Worlds music (including on Bandcamp), hoping they'll put Prodigy on Bandcamp too.

Paramount has cancelled Star Trek Prodigy - season 2 will not be on Paramount plus, but will be marketed to other platforms. The second season is almost finished:

Paramount has cancelled Star Trek Prodigy

The streaming services' new penchant for write-downs is taking a real toll on their libraries. But this was always an odd duck as far as who it was made for. I have no objection to "entry-level" Star Trek for kids, but this show went fairly deep into Janeway and Chakotay and Ferengi (not to mention time travel and warp technology). I guess that was for parents who watched with their kids? It was a strange target, and while Paramount+ does not reveal their ratings, it seems pretty clear that it missed it.

My friend Clark watches the show with his kids and likes it a lot, so I think you’re right about the target demographic in many ways.

But if it was a miss, I’m mystified as to why it got renewed past the first season (or two odd half seasons?) — why renew it only to cancel it and remove it from the streaming service when the second season was almost complete, and actually will be completed? Why not pull the plug sooner?

Yavar, I think there are a few things going on here. One is that the show requires such a long lead time to produce that if they didn't get a jump on season two, their audience might have forgotten about it by the time it finally returned. So they rolled the dice and regretted it. At the same time, as streaming subscriptions cool and the CEOs are under pressure to show profit, they are finding it is more profitable (or less unprofitable) to cut shows loose and take the write-downs. The CEOs keep their jobs, investors may approve, but subscribers are frustrated. The streaming business is changing fast (Warner Bros. Discovery is starting to shop HBO shows to Netflix, showing that the fairly recent model where the studios hoard what they own didn't prove to be the windfall they were hoping).

Just yesterday, I was discussing with a drama writer/producer a series he was working on, funded by a production company that has since gotten out of the business of producing original content. So it's gone to a different distributor, which is also now flirting with abandoning the originals business. Meanwhile, the series (two seasons, as yet unaired anywhere) cost over $150M! Not a good business!

Wow. TWO produced (for $150M!) seasons of a show, and they haven't found a home yet? Very bizarre. Thanks for the industry insight as always, Schiffy.

As someone who is about halfway through the first season, this is massively frustrating having particularly subscribed to Paramount for Star Trek (mostly Strange New Worlds to be fair). I don't enjoy binging a show in a day, nor do I have the time so will probably just have to wait until it finds a new home to watch the rest of the season if it goes before I can. Once this season of Strange New Worlds is done, I don't particularly see any reason to renew Paramount.

I'm not quite understanding regarding season two. Is it also part of the tax write off? If so, how will they able to write it off if they end up earning revenue from another streaming platform? Unless they think someone else is going to pay silly money for the rights (but why would they) enabling them to not do the write off?

Maybe Nick UK will run it (they air season 1)?
