The Swimmer - Marvin Hamlisch.

I have listened to it countless times and it never ceases to stir up deep emotions the way music should. Perfect.

Missing by a hair is TESB. But my favorite has to go to Raiders of the Lost Ark. A perfect score if ever there was one.

It may be heresy 'round these parts, but the last time I gave Raiders a spin it seemed to drag in the final quarter.

My favorite of all time is probably Basic Instinct. I know some people feel that one drags, so make of it what you will.

I've concluded that my absolute favorite has to be the Ben Hur Miklos Rozsa score (the 1991 Sony double CD version... I would take this one with me to a deserted island, if only allowed one soundtrack CD.

Illogical! Illogical!

Lots of great ones here. I'll add Herrmann's JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS. (Of course I could add many other Herrmanns, but that's my go-to, which I suppose makes it my No. 1 of all time.)

Though I love so many of John Williams’ scores, it’s got to be Jerry Goldsmith’s ST:TMP. That’s been my go-to score ever since I got the LLL set.

This is madness, but the first soundtrack that popped up in my head was THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR.

One soundtrack CD, plenty of music, one maestro.

Ennio Morricone - The Legendary Italian Westerns The Film Composers Series, Volume II (RCA 1990)

My first film music CD I bought and top on my list till today.

The Great Escape (Intrada) because it's my favorite score of all time.
The Wild Bunch (FSM End of the Line) is so wonderfully complete.
Star Trek: TMP (La La Land) I could just listen to over and over
Lost In Space complete Series (La La Land) which is just so wonderfully nostalgic
The Sand Pebbles (Intrada) when I think of the LP and what we have now in this release...OY!!

The Empire Strikes Back - It is also my favorite movie too.

That said, I think Return of the Jedi had a better LP at the time because it was all concert pieces.

I'm surprised so many have trouble naming just one. I thought having one special "shining beacon" score on top was more common than it actually is.

I find it pretty much impossible to pick ONE shining beacon, amongst the wealth of amazing music I've grown to love over all these years.
At a push, I could list 5, and they would probably all be from those early, formative years (late 70s) when the Score Bug was first lighting up my life.
So, we're talking JAWS, STAR WARS, SUPERMAN, CE3K and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
Each has something the other doesn't, but which I can't do without.
"All These Powers...And I Couldn't Pick One"
They are the mainstays.

Alien 3.
This cut right through to me when it appeared, after being into scores for a decade or so. It stayed on my player even when I moved away from film music and journeyed through other genres. Although there's always a chance for a new fav, there can't really be another formative impact like it.

It is hard to pick just one.

Earlier I picked The Last Valley. Followed that by saying that The Lion in Winter would be a second choice.

A few others:

To Kill a Mockingbird

La Dolce Vita

The Blue Max

The Best Years of Our Lives

In Cold Blood

The OP did ask for your single favourite score that you would bring to a deserted island to be fair. That is not a request for folk to list numerous favourite scores from different composers. Stay on track peoplewink
