I expected to get this box today but believe it or not, the release has been once again postponed ! I'm told it's supposed to be available around somewhere between the 23d and 25th March. Still a few more days to go therefore...

That's odd, Laurent. Mine is on the way. I hope there isn't some kind of error they noticed after shipping the first batch frown

Stefan, no doubt your copy is on the way. What I said regards the shops I know in Paris: they will receive it only next week. Can't wait !

Salut à tous,

Déception pour moi car beaucoup de doublon dans ce coffret (titres que je possède déjà + reprises des coffrets précédents)
exemple:

"Volpone" = que j'ai dejà

Franck.

Bonjour et merci pour votre retour Franck.
Je vais récupérer mon coffret demain.
Sauriez vous me dire si les thèmes it’s not a joke provenant du Patchwork 20 ainsi que
Gringo issu du Patchwork 80 sont présents ?
Je vous remercie !

Fred, I can understand your disappointment but the fact that some of the music was previously available on various library music LP's and CD's is known only by specialists and it's therefore obvious that Cosma doesn't care about it at all. Don't forget that these records by MPI or MCT were not aimed at the public at large but at professionals working in the media. Regarding the love theme from PRESIDENT FERRARE (very much inspired by Glass) which was indeed present in the selection from HITLER A HOLLYWOOD, you must keep in mind that this movie by Frédéric Sojcher didn't have an original score but was made up with music taken from LES AVENTURES DE TOM SAWYER, LE PRIX DU DANGER, LA 7ème CIBLE, LA TOTALE, LA MONTRE, LA CROIX ET LA MANIERE, LES COEURS BRÛLÉS, ALBERT EST MECHANT, LA FICTION (LES GUIGNOLS), PRESIDENT FERRARE, etc.

A bad choice in my opinion is to have included for the umpteenth time the song Vieni qui and its instrumental rendition in POURQUOI PAS NOUS ? since this song was already available in the score from LA RIVALE in the 2d box. Beside the Michel Berny MBR CD of PETIT DEJEUNER / POURQUOI PAS NOUS ,? etc, mind that Vieni qui was also featured on the original CD's of L'AFFAIRE and LE TEMPS DES PORTE-PLUMES so that's pretty much enough of it ! Also more tracks from SAM & SALLY should have been suppressed since they come from CATHERINE & CIE, a score released in the 3d box. And regarding Mockin' bird blues, which was present on the LP of SAM & SALLY, it's normal to have it as part of LES GRANDS DETECTIVES, the score it really belongs to. As I already wrote it before, the real pity is that Cosma didn't find the complete tapes of SAM & SALLY, especially the 2d season (1980) for which he composed new music. Ditto with PETIT DEJEUNER COMPRIS in which there are some unreleased variations of the known themes.

Still, there's a lot of truly unreleased material in this box to look forward to. How is the music from AUTO-AUTO for instance ?

Dear Cosma's fan group
Just arrived here.
So happy with my 4th box.
It is just me or one of the main themes for Kyo in "Tang" is the main title for the recent "Un Profil pour Deux"?
B-side of "Tang" single doesn't appear in the this cd. Isn't it?
Greetings from BCN
Alex

Welcome Alex. I'm afraid you'll be somewhat disappointed since there is no actual 'Cosma fan group' over here, rather just 4 or 5 persons interested in this composer, maybe 10 maximum.

Regarding UN PROFIL POUR DEUX, it's indeed a known fact that the main theme is a new treatment of TANG's love theme, where a chorus with harmonica and cymbalum has been added in the middle section (very similar to the concert versions of various themes). Looking at the track-listing, I also noticed that Kyo et l'amour isn't featured in the new box. Could it be that Kyo et l'amour was actually a montage of two versions of this theme done for the single and that would be featured as separate items in the box ? Just wondering...
Back to UN PROFIL... : if you listen carefully to the tune kicking off at 0'38 in the track La moto ivre or in Super 8 or in Alex and Flora (from the start), you will recognize a tune of which the original is being released for the very first time in the box. Just try to guess which one.

Vieni qui is also present on the CD of UN PROFIL POUR DEUX !!!!

What is BCN ?

Dear Laurent and Cosma's followers,

I started with my Cosma albums at the end of the eighties by buying vinyls in Andorra. Fold out As of Aces was spectacular, I remember, but I never keep track of his entire career till recent years where, maybe because my seniority now, I can appreciate better the work of our Maestro.
Thanks for your tips regarding the tracks suggested. I will pay attention.
Sorry if I was cryptic... BCN stands for Barcelona.
Greetings and thanks again for the info.
Alex

I seize this opportunity to say that It’s not a joke has always been a true favourite of mine: it’s a slow and mysterious rendition of the main theme of LES GRANDS DETECTIVES. In the SHERLOCK HOLMES episode where it is featured, we also hear two or three other variations of it, also fascinating ones. This is purely subjective of course but I find it to bear almost a François de Roubaix touch. I don’t have the box yet but really hope Cosma included these short variations as well.

As for Gringo, if I’m not mistaken, it’s been used in the movie LA CHEVRE but I can’t tell for sure if it’s been written earlier.

I purchased this long overdue item today and am impressed by the booklet : 130 pages full of informations and analysis. As I suspected it, the TV series AUTO AUTO has never been aired.

Like Emmanuelcap, I also will listen to this box over the week-end.

Thanks for that outstanding long-awaited release (we have spoken with Laurent 3-4 years ago about this release #4) and they included some great titles as L’ADIEU AUX AS, LES GRANDS SENTIMENTS FONT LES BONS GUEULETONS, MEDECINS DE NUIT, VOLPONE, TANG, L’EQUIPAGE, DRÔLE DE SAMEDI....
and some more which previously released on EP only (i had them before and listened in poor quality) or some tracks released on CD compilations only main theme ... This time they are full.

Because i'm not FRENCH i'm not familiar with many others titles / films - never seen those films before, never knew some or less from OST. But thanks for Laurent, he send me some other gems / movie rips from MADAME LE JUGE, LE PRESIDENT FERRARE etc - which are SUPERB music but never released (i'm saying our conversations 3-4 years ago) and they are Fantastic... for example some titles like CHATEAUVALLON also was unknown title for me before they released CD. These titles probably were famous in France. I'm not speaking of Michel Strogoff and other very famous TV-movies (not only famous in France, Belgium, etc)

Well, for the moment i don't have that box-set . I can't say about Inedits/ Re-released / Same themes etc.
And i don't think this 4th box will be FILL all COSMA Unreleased stuff, of course some will be remains unreleased.
But this is indeed TREASURE.

Thanks

Thanks Eda-88 for your message. This set has indeed a lot to offer. As an example, I like very much the score of LA JEUNE FEMME EN VERT, featuring the Bronté and Cosma himself playing keyboards (btw, he's often performing his own music in this stuff, even once on the violin for LES GRANDS DETECTIVES).

Two scores don't sound very much Cosma to my ears:

- LE COLLECTIONNEUR DE CERVEAUX: save for the main theme (reused very often as Floarea soarelui), I don't really recognize Cosma in the remainder of the score. Still, it's very good.
- LA MER PROMISE: in this entirely synthetic score, I guess that the director Jacques Ertaud asked Vladimir to come up with these sounds, since he teamed up before with François de Roubaix.

Emmanuelcap and Eda (once you get the box), here's a riddle for you : three superb library music tracks have been inserted in the score of AUTO AUTO. Do you recognize which ones ? I'm very satisfied to get them on CD.

Enjoy !
Laurent

US video label Severin is putting out a second boxed set of Christopher Lee's Euro-schlock films.
One of the titles is Dracula And Son (1976) which features a Cosma score.

Exclusive to the set will be a separate CD soundtrack of the score- the first time it's ever been made available (according to Severin).

Thanks for the info, Mose. Yet this score called DRACULA PERE ET FILS in French has been released as a single in 1976 and the complete soundtrack eventually surfaced for the first time in the 2d box of 17 CD a couple of years ago.

I'm sure everyone knows- except me wink
I obviously wasn't aware of the Digitmovies release and was just going by what Severin was touting it it's trailer for the set

I wasn't enthusiastic about dropping $100 for this selection of films, just to have the Cosma disc, so it's nice to hear there's another option.

Cosma´s DRACULA PÈRE ET FILS was never released on Digitmovies. Could it be that you mix this up with the DRACULA score by Claudio Gizzi?

I may have read it wrong, Stefan, but I was referring to another score ( and film in the box) and not 'pere et fils'

Afterthought , either Lavagnino's or Savina 's score to a Lee film I think.
