Of course she had to follow the modern-day template, otherwise she would have been fired and they would have just re-hired someone else to programme a score from their phone, but from the cues I've played so far, I quite like what I've been hearing... I'm with you, Kev! It feels modern, yet also a throwback in some ways. I like it, and I'm honestly pretty interested to see the movie and appreciate the score in context... Yavar It works well. Props to Schachner.

Badass cover! Anyone know if this is planned for a CD release? Fingers crossed, as all the other scores in the series are on disc. As an aside, I am seeing "Prey" tonight at a screening at the Aero theater, in Santa Monica, with cast & crew Q&A - super excited! How was that Q&A? I volunteer for the Aero and came so close to getting over there. Also, this is the best movie released this week by a mile, and the best Predator movie that is not the original Predator by an even wider margin. Absolute crime this is not in theaters.

I watched it last night and thought it was... not very good (I'm being diplomatic). I found it dull and uninvolving. And I know it's fantasy/sci-fi but it strained credulity even for this series. I also found the pacing and editing off and confusing at times, with some sub-par CGI (the CGI rendered animals are terrible). I'm not a huge fan of the series overall, having loved the original, thought the second one was decent and remember quite liking the one on another planet with Adrian Brody. The rest have been mainly garbage with the odd good moment or two. I didn't find much in this one to set it apart from the other, lesser efforts in the series. I did like the score in those moments it sounded like Carter Burwell doing Last Of The Mohicans (the tracks I've linked above) but found the modern tribal/percussion sound as nondescript as the film and its characters. I really hoped to like this film too.

I watched it last night and thought it was... not very good (I'm being diplomatic). Reminds me a bit of "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance" but its not the same composer. I came here to mention exactly the same thing! I went into the movie not knowing who was scoring it, but when I heard a particular cue, I figured it *must* have been Daniel Pemberton, as I'm a huge fan of his Dark Crystal Age of Resistance scores, and one of the cues in particular sounded almost identical (even the instrumentation perhaps?). Having said that, I did quite enjoy the score to Prey. And as for the movie; for my money, it was easily the second-best entry in the series, after the original. I loved the pacing, the look, the violence, the sparseness of dialogue. I was actually afraid for the characters as the action ramped up. The only thing I found mildly disappointing were the special effects, which I was rather shocked to see ILM involved with. And it wasn't just the animal effects (which, as others have noted, were a little naff), but I found some of the predator effects to be a little on the weak side as well. I've always found this part to the be the weakest of the original movie as well, but figured that by now, they'd have perfected a lot of this stuff. This may have been down to a reduced budget, who knows? At any rare, it is a huge disappointment that this didn't get a proper cinema release, as it more than deserved it and would have been great to see play out on the big screen.

We watched the movie last night and really enjoyed it. Easily the best in the franchise since the first film even though I do have a soft spot for Predator 2 . The music worked great in the film, but didn't really grab me enough to purchase the download. That's just due to my preferences, not any failing on the composer's part. Well said. I felt the same. I think it’s very well done for the movie but not sure it would be something I’d listen to apart. I don’t know if a melodic or overt score would have worked with the tone of this new film. Props to Schachner. She did very well on this.

Like most scores these days, there's like one, maybe two highlight cues and then 100 minutes of total filler that could have been composed by any of us. I'd love to have someone point out all the uses of Silvestri's theme because I didn't hear it at all.
